Tatetops (タテトプス) is one of the Template:Pokenum fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. Tatetops is famous for being one of the Pokémon revealed before the Japanese release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The purpose of Tatetops in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]
Its name derives from the word 盾 (tate, shield) and the "-ceratops" suffix used to describe prehistorical animals - horned dinosaurs such as the famous Triceratops. Tatetopusu's name can be romanized as "Tatetops".
Characteristics
Tatetops appears to be based on a type of ceratops dinosaur. Its head crest most likely plays into its high Defense. Its evolutionary chain is as yet unknown.
Tatetops is resurrected from a fossil like Omanyte, Kabuto, Aerodactyl, Anorith, and Lileep before it. [3]
In the video games
Tatetops will be one of many new Pokémon to make its first appearance upon the release of Pokémon Pearl for the Nintendo DS.
Tatetops can learn "AncientPower" and a new attack, Metal Buster, which works like a Steel-type Counter.[4]
