Tenpō Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi (天保異聞 妖奇士) is an anime series created by Shou Aikawa, noted for his previous work on Fullmetal Alchemist, produced by Aniplex and BONES, and directed by Hiroshi Nishikiori. Toshihiro Kawamoto, noted for his previous work with BONES on Wolf's Rain and Cowboy Bebop, is to handle character designs.

The series is set in Edo, during Japan's Tenpō era of the Edo period.

Story
The time was 14th year of Tempo Era (1844), 10 years before the arrival of the European ships (The Black Ships). Edo is under attack by beasts from the underworld, know as Yoi 妖夷（ようい）. Members of an organization called the Bansha Aratamesho, called the "Ayashi"s 奇士（あやし）are here to fight against the beasts.
