Sefton High School is a partially selective high school in Sefton, Sydney, Australia. It is a full day, co-educational secondary school, and is a public school operated by the New South Wales Department of Education and Training. Sefton High School is considered one of the best partially selective schools in New South Wales, and consistently receives the highest HSC result among partially selective schools. In the lower four grades (Years 7 through 10), approximately half of the students are selected by a competitive entrance examination ("selective" classes), while the other half are accepted by virtue of local residency ("community" classes). However, in Years 11 and 12 the two streams are not differentiated.

History

Sefton High School received its first students on January 30, 1961. It was at first planned as "Chester Hill High School". The plan was changed, however, and eventually a separate, non-selective school was established in the nearby suburb of Chester Hill. From the beginning, Sefton High School featured a large diversity in the origin of its students. Many of its first students were "New Australians" who had recently arrived from the United Kingdom and who were living in nearby Villawood. The large proportion of students from a non-Australian background continues to this day.

Campus

Sefton High School is located in Sefton, a suburb in the south-west of Sydney. The school grounds cover almost an entire block along Hector Street. The main building is a three-sided, two-storey building surrounding a rectangular playground. In addition, there is an assembly hall, a gymnasium, an industrial sciences building, as well as an administrative block and a newly developed library.

In addition to the gymansium, sports facilities include outdoor basketball courts, a football field, and various smaller playing areas. The back oval has been recently rejuinvated, with the grounds being smoothed out and brand new grass being laid, all up, costing about $100K. New handball court lines, including a massive 8 square court, have also been painted on the new bitumen which was laid during the 2005/2006 School holidays.

Traditions

  • Year 12 concert (Which always consists of the following): A Martial Arts Act (Asian students trying to show off), A slutty dance (To make up for the lack of promiscuousity of the students), A RnB dance, Lame jokes (To commemorate the lameness) and a graduation song.

Class of 2005

On Thursday, September 22nd of 2005, the class of 2005 held their Yr12 performance, an annual tradition performed by the entire grade. The class of 2005 held a rather dissapointing and unentertaining performance (mainly due a the inclusion of some poor scripted and performed 'comedic' skits. The traditional 'slutty' dance (performed by a group of normally 5 or 6 girls) was slow and uneventful and the whole performance ended 40 minutes ahead of time.

Class of 2006

On Thursday, September 28th of 2006, the class of 2006 held their Yr12 performance, an annual tradition performed by the entire grade. The class of 2006 held the best Yr12 concert ever and is considered one of the best grades ever to exist in one of the best schools. Graduating on Friday, September 29th of 2006, the class of 2006 Sefton High School simply rocked. They broke the record for the most guys in skirts during the concert(Another tradition that was attempyed in previous years)(15+), as well as having a much more impressive 'Slut-like' dance that included backgroud music such as "Sway" and "Dance".
