Mimer SQL is an SQL-based relational database management system[1] from the Swedish company Mimer Information Technology AB (formerly Upright Database Technology AB). It has been developed and produced since the 1970s when it was founded at the Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden. It is assigned port 1360 in the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) registry.[2]

The database is available in real-time, embedded and automotive specialist versions requiring no maintenance.[3] This makes it suitable for mission-critical automotive, process automation and telecommunication systems.[4]

As of April 2018[update] the Mimer SQL database server is currently supported on the main platforms of Windows, MacOS, Linux, and OpenVMS (Alpha and Integrity).[5]. Previous versions of the database engine was supported on other operating systems including Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, Tru 64 and SCO.[6]. Versions of Mimer SQL are available for download and free for development[7] and Miner AB has indicated Mimer SQL will always be available free for development.[5]
Mimer SQL offers a scalable and portable solutions providing database servers for environments that spanning from embedded and real-time operating systems to enterprise systems.[8]
This includes platforms like Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android, Unix, OpenVMS, and VxWorks.[9]
Features
Mimer SQL provides support for multiple database application programming interfaces (APIs): ODBC, JDBC, ADO.NET, Embedded SQL (C/C++, Cobol and Fortran), and the native API's Mimer SQL Real-Time API and Mimer SQL Micro C API.
Mimer SQL uses optimistic concurrency control (OCC).[10][11]
Etymology
The name "Mimer" is taken from the Norse mythology, where Mimer was the giant guarding the well of wisdom, also known as "Mímisbrunnr". Metaphorically this is what a database system is doing - managing data.
