Serbs have a long history on the territory of today's Albania. The territory of today's Albania was part of the medieval Serbian Empire. According to Serbian sources it is thought that about 40,000 Serbs live in the country, mostly concentrated in and around the northern town of Skadar (Albanian: Shkodër), although that is disputed by the Albanian authorities.
