Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/IP check/Archive

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Thatcher (talk | contribs) at 14:41, 13 November 2006 (move one from main page). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Requests for IP check

This page lists requests to identify and block the IP addresses behind attack and vandal accounts that were previously listed at Requests for checkuser. After the account has been reported as blocked or declined by the checkusers, the report is moved here for seven days (most recent sections at the bottom), after which it is deleted. Because there is no attempt to establish a relationship with a puppetmaster account, no separate archive is kept, other than the page history.

The Sockpuppets are Euskata (talk · contribs) and Herculean (talk · contribs), and the possible sockpuppeteers below.

Hello, I'm the mediator at Talk:White people/Mediation, where two new and mysterious users (Euskata and Herculean) have been vandalizing. Created the 9th and 10th of November, respectively, they have 34 edits, and 7, of which almost, if not all of, them are to pages related to White people. The administrator Shell Kinney told me to come here. I think it is case A above. I added myself to the list of possible sockpuppeers because, in case that none of the others are responsible, they wouldn't suspect me. I'm not sure if this is the right place to report this, but I don't think it was above. | AndonicO Talk 19:19, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Changed text because a new ?sockpuppet? appeared. | AndonicO Talk 00:39, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Confirmed Euskata is Herculean, Ibarreche, Ibarretxe, Thor'shamster. No main account is immediately obvious. The IP is 4.245.0.0/16 (probably aa smaller range if I looked closer). Dmcdevit·t 01:11, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Phaedriel impostors

This is a check under category A and possibly also category C above. Today, the above four users showed up separately, all impersonating Phaedriel (talk · contribs), using the following "tactics":

  • Claiming to be alternate accounts of Phaedriel [1] [2]
  • Claiming to no longer user Phaedriel's main account [3]
  • Using Phaedriel's name as a mask for using abusive language [4] [5] [6]
  • Impersonating Phaedriel on RfAs (and making unfounded accusations at candidates) [7] [8] [9] [10] [11]
  • When blocked, using the {{unblock}} tag to ask for a review of their situations on WP:ANI [12] [13]

Are these users all operated by the same individual (possibly by a familiar puppeteer), and are the underlying IP(s) feasible to block? Scobell302 12:15, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

One IP, with lots of other vandalism, too. Blocked. Dmcdevit·t 00:49, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

William Mauco

Code letter D In [14] we had a vote where first IP voted similary and used same language as User:William Mauco (votes nr. 6 and 8) - I know the language of William Mauco from many other discussion in Wikipedia. Second IP edited the article about British Helsinki Human Rights Group [15], where he wanted to make less evident the fact that this group is not affiliated with Helsinki Comitee for Human Rights. From other discussion with William Mauco I know he supports British Helsinki Human Rights Group and consider it a reliable refference for statements he want to include in Wiki articles. I suspect he was defending the credibility of BHHRG not only in talk pages of other articles but also through anonimous edits in the wikipedia article about BHHRG.--MariusM 00:14, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for this clarification, although both deserved to have been declined. MariusM claims Code D but this is not a closed vote so that should have been declined, too. At any rate, I am glad for the confirmation that these are different ISPs altogether. - Mauco 00:11, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Roger Needham vandal

These are the two latest socks of a highly persistent vandal at Roger Needham (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views). See the deleted edits for the full history of his campaign, and see Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of TsingTao and Talk:Roger Needham#Sockpuppet list for a list of the sockpuppet accounts he has used. If it were possible to block every username based on a Chinese restaurant menu item, I'd do that. I'm sure that most of the previous accounts will be too old to be of any use for checkuser, but perhaps if we give him enough rope to hang himself this time we'll be able to find an IP to block? —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 05:09, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He's on shared IPs; no block is possible. Dmcdevit·t 00:23, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Akaneon

Right after I block the main account, these IPs come immedially flogging my talk page and vandalising it. Are they shared IPs, open proxys or what? Yanksox 12:34, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: Two of these IPs are listed here as spam sources (maybe zombies)? I have blocked. No info on the third. Thatcher131 01:04, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In any case, Akaneon hasn't used any of those IPs, and checkuser won't help figure out what to do with them. Dmcdevit·t 01:15, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You should list the third at WP:OPP for investigation. Thatcher131 01:16, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: As a verified user at WP:OP I can confirm that User:217.160.230.167 is not editing from an open proxy. — Deon555talk 21:44, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
