L'etichetta fu fondata nel 1992 da Ray Cappo, componente storico degli Youth of Today, oltre che degli Shelter e dei Better Than a Thousand.
Inizialmente l'etichetta pubblicava unicamente lavori degli Shelter, ma nel 1992 fu comprata da Steve Reddy, sotto la cui direzione l'azienda mise sotto contratto gruppi hardcore come One King Down, Ten Yard Fight e Floorpunch. Alla fine degli anni novanta la Equal Vision acquisì ulteriore importanza pubblicando dischi di Bane, Trial, Converge e Saves the Day.
Nel luglio 2009 la Equal Vision ha creato una sottoetichetta, la Mantralogy Records, che si occuperà principalmente di gruppi Hare Krishna.[1]
