It is found in Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. The IUCN has classified the species as being of least concern.
Status
The lesser seedcracker has a very wide range and is a common species. It faces no particular threats and the population is stable, so the International Union for Conservation of Nature has assessed its conservation status as being of "least concern".[2]
