HeidiSQL (previously known as MySQL-Front) is a free, open source client for MySQL developed by German programmer Ansgar Becker who goes by the pseudonym Anse.
The releases with version numbers below 3.0 were known as MySQL-Front until 2.5. The name has changed in 2006, as Ansgar Becker took his old sources and put them into a new open-source-project at SourceForge in April 2006.
There was also a shareware-application called "MySQL-Front 3.0", which was developed by another developer from 2004 to 2006 and had a complete new codebase.
The team around HeidiSQL currently consists of five developers and one designer. The team-members are working on HeidiSQL in their spare time.
