UNESCO Calls for Proposals of Projects for Funding Under Information for All Programme

Various international librarian's groups: LITA (vial the ALA), ALA itself, SLA...

How to apply

This looks right up our alley. Deadline is Feb 20; we should try to find a partner to list on the app, but it's a brief app that requires no elaborate information.

We do need to specify a subproject with measurable goals...

We could focus a subproject on reaching out and educating IT professionals, particularly at libraries, making materials for them / local users trying to get the most out of our content (and trying to understand the community/structure so as to get more out of talk pages, template searches, etc)

sending out copies of CDs to libraries in parts of the world that speak english, french, german. we could measure the success by running a survey at first, asking how many of the libraries refer clients to wikimedia projects, and how often... then doing the same at the end of the project there was an existing project that sends computers to edu. institutions in parts of the world that have none; who would provide free transport for machines if we provided the machines. we might also partner with them to get extra machines to libraries that don't have one to spare for an encyclopedia-terminal.

As an international project, under their scales, we would be asking for ~$45k for the proj; reasonable for a 6-month outreach proposal.

potential collaboration

SLA - int'l librarian association. President contacted; UN grants librarians often pursue

I did not find references saying we should necessarily have a partner. Anthere
well, there's both space to list partnership and the "are you officially endorsed by a national committee?" question. That's all I meant.
