Gli Evanescence hanno pubblicato quattro album in studio, un album dal vivo, una compilation, un box set, un album di demo, tre EP, tredici singoli, otto singoli promozionali e tredici video musicali. Ad oggi hanno venduto oltre 25 milioni di dischi in tutto il mondo[1].

Gli Evanescence vennero fondati nel 1995 da Amy Lee e Ben Moody, riscuotendo un certo successo a livello locale prima di Fallen (2003), album che raggiunse la terza posizione della Billboard 200. Dall'album vennero estratti i singoli Bring Me to Life, Going Under, My Immortal ed Everybody's Fool. Nel 2004 gli Evanescence vinsero due Grammy Award (come Miglior Artista Esordiente e Miglior Interpretazione Hard Rock).

Il loro secondo album, The Open Door (2006), debuttò al primo posto in cinque classifiche nazionali, inclusa la Billboard 200, con il primo singolo Call Me When You're Sober. Dall'album furono estratti anche i singoli Lithium, Sweet Sacrifice e Good Enough.

Evanescence, il loro terzo album in studio, fu pubblicato il 7 ottobre 2011 e debuttò al primo posto della Billboard 200. L'album fu anticipato dal singolo What You Want, pubblicato il 9 agosto 2011. Il secondo singolo, My Heart Is Broken, fu trasmesso radiofonicamente dal 31 ottobre 2011. L'ultimo singolo estratto dall'album, Lost in Paradise, fu rilasciato il 25 maggio 2012.

Il quarto album della band, Synthesis, fu pubblicato il 10 novembre 2017. L'album debuttò all'ottavo posto della Billboard 200 e, sempre negli Stati Uniti, alla posizione numero uno nelle seguenti classifiche: Top Rock Albums[2], Alternative Albums[3], Classical Albums[4] e Independent Albums[5].
