English: [On back of photograph] 'Calvert Scientific Exploring Expedition 1896-97. Left to right: A.T. Magarey, L.A. Wells, G.L. Jones, C.F. Wells and G.A. Keartland [General description] The group of men are posed for the photographer in a garden, two are seated, the others standing. Two of the men, Charles Wells and George Jones, died in the Western Australian desert whilst on this Expedition, trying to locate Joanna Spring which had been wrongly located on their map.
