Assyrian, Chaldean, Aramean and Syriac topics

edit

As general sanctions have been enacted for Assyrian, Chaldean, Aramean and Syriac topics, should they be added to the list of general sanctions, or should we wait for WP:GS/ACAS to be created first? Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 19:36, 24 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

If they have been enacted, they should be added to the list. Primefac (talk) 15:30, 25 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I opened an issue on the github and started a thread -- y'all may wish to add your thoughts, as it would cover the newly created WP:GS/ACS sanctions. SWATJester Shoot Blues, Tell VileRat! 01:39, 26 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Table

edit

Can we remake this template, so that it doesn't use an HTML table for layout? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:27, 15 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Can the alert include the 500/30 restriction for topics that have that restriction?

edit

Before I had XC rights, I got this template for posting in a topic area broadly related to the RUSUKR topic area.

Nowhere does it say that you can’t post in the topic area unless if you have 500 edits, unless if you read the nine links, and I had assumed it was an automated message at the time, just saying to be careful with edits.

Indeed, on two occasions it seems to imply that you are allowed to edit the area:

It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in the Russo-Ukrainian War. Due to past disruption in this topic area, the community has authorised uninvolved administrators to impose contentious topics restrictions—such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks—on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, expected standards of behaviour, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

when making edits related to the topic” implies that you *can* make edits related to the topic (as long as you follow standards of behavior, etc.). And there is an issue with your contributions if they are not allowed.

Obviously, after I edited a page “broadly related” again and got a personalized message saying I couldn’t do that, I immediately stopped doing that until I got XC. But it is a waste of time for both the user and the person warning, and additionally I was later accused of ignoring a warning, which is frustrating.

So I think this message should clearly state that you cannot edit anything broadly related to the Russo-Ukrainian war. Template:Alert/first includes: Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on any page within this topic. (bolding in original). Can something like this be included here too? LordDiscord (talk) 15:39, 27 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Implemented via Module:Sanctions in Special:Diff/1306439617. I did not apply boldface because it would have been inconvenient to do so, because of how the restriction information is recorded in Module:Sanctions/data. Thanks for noticing and requesting this. — Newslinger talk 19:45, 17 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Newslinger, please close the <p> tags that you inserted into Module:Sanctions. Unclosed p tags cause Linter errors that you can see in "Page information". An example page showing these errors is Template:Gs/alert/sandbox. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:23, 17 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
