Proposals for closing projects/Closure of Bosnian Wiktionary
This is a proposal for closing and/or deleting a wiki hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation. It is subject to the current closing projects policy.
The proposal for closing wikt:bs: is currently open for discussion by the community.
- Type: 1 (routine proposal)
- Proposed outcome: closure
- Proposed action regarding the content: none (already transferred to the Serbo-Croatian Wiktionary)
- Notice on the project: diff
- Informed Group(s): Bosnian Wikipedians (diff)
Proposal
editFollowing the local community's decision to merge the Bosnian Wiktionary into the Serbo-Croatian one and subsequent consultations with MF-Warburg, a member of the Wikimedia Foundation Language Committee, I'm initiating this project closure proposal.
During the local discussion, KWiki and Srđan, two administrators of the Bosnian Wiktionary, highlighted the inactivity and lack of maintenance of the project, as well as the lack of an editorial base. It was noted that merging with a macrolanguage project would make sense.
In coordination with the local community and based on the MF-Warburg's recommendations, all relevant articles, templates, categories, and project pages from the Bosnian Wiktionary have been imported successfully into the Serbo-Croatian project. In the aftermath of this move, the Bosnian Wiktionary was emptied, and the final maintenance of the project was completed.
This Type 1 closure request (due to the absence of significant content) is submitted with the intention of ratifying the steps already taken by the community. All colleagues are welcome to provide their feedback and comments.

Discussion
edit- Support. This is a slightly unusual proposal - most type 1 proposals involve an outside person observing that the wiki is functionally dead. Here, on the other hand, the community has already voluntarily amalgamated with another wiki. Since there is no content and no community on this wiki anymore, there is no point keeping it open. - Indeed, good remark :). Thank you for your comment. – Aca (talk) 17:36, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

- + Support Conditional support: If and only if the local B. Wikimedia community has explicitly expressed such a desire, although I'd like too see more of the *native* B. editors confirm their previous local decisions and/or make their final ones here on Meta-Wiki. --نوفاك اتشمان (talk) 16:50, 21 May 2025 (UTC)
- + Comment Of course, now I'd Strong support that for all of the B. Wikimedia projects. --نوفاك اتشمان (talk) 15:16, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- Strong support. This and other similar projects (Wikibooks, Wikiquote, etc.) have seen little to no activity for years and lack the community needed for meaningful development. Keeping them open only fragments efforts and misrepresents the state of the Wikimedia movement. Given the linguistic closeness of ex-Yugoslav communities, similar underused projects across the region should be considered for unification. One well-maintained version per project type (e.g. a shared Wiktionary) could foster collaboration, improve quality, and ensure sustainability. ✪ Z1KA 20:17, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
