Even if there are no sources explicitly calling the war “third Sudanese civil war” it’s still the third civil war that has happened so shouldn’t it be named that? Salvation Front (talk) 06:18, 17 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

has happened where? in Sudan? are you sure? I see more than 6. Shall we call it the “Seventh Sudanese civil war” although one of the 5 was not a full war. how about the the “sixth point five Sudanese civil war”. Or let's be creative and call it the “Zeroth Sudanese civil war”.
On a serious note, the First (FSCW) and Second (SSCW) Sudanese civil wars were named that because the SSCW was a continuation of the FSCW that was stopped after a peace agreement in 1972, not because they were the first and second numerically in the history of Sudan. Even between 1972 and 1983, there were civil wars, e.g. Akobo Mutiny (1975). So naming this war the "Third" is misleading as they are not related. 2A0C:5BC0:40:1A93:A28C:FDFF:FEE9:9716 (talk) 14:43, 2 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Isn't this war basically a continuation of the Darfur sidefront of the Second Sudanese Civil War, and the smaller scale fighting with the Pro-Southern Groups an even more direct continuation 2604:3D09:1F7F:8B00:FDBF:C443:FFB6:E8EE (talk) 02:36, 13 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yes lol. Honestly I don't understand this kind of logic, like reliable sources don't call it the Third Sudanese Civil War but they're not calling it the "Sudanese Civil War (2023-pressnt)" either????? What's the logic there? That the letter is more descriptive than an "official" title? To disambiguate? I'm sure there's other pages with insurgency or conflict in their names with sources that however call them border wars, insurgency instead of conflict and vice versa. This is obviously the third civil war they've had, the War in Darfur has been commonly accepted as being a continuation of the Second Sudanese Civil War without being part of it as it was limited, I don't know what the other guy's on about, there were no fullscale civil wars other than the three main internal conflicts Wikipedia considers to be THE civil wars of Sudan. Renaming it to a name that, again, no reliable sources use either, is stupid, in fact I've usually read about "the civil war in Sudan" not even "the Sudanese Civil War". "Sudan's civil war".
The page on the war's humanitarian impact switched from Third Sudanese Civil War to Sudanese conflict?????? Does someone in here just hate autists who like things to be properly numbered?
It should all be changed back to Third Sudanese Civil War. De Leonibus Emiliano (talk) 19:11, 13 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
The time (i.e., 2023-pressnt) in the title does not require a source. Read WP:NC() FuzzyMagma (talk) 15:13, 16 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
the Second Sudanese Civil War did not have Darfur sidefront FuzzyMagma (talk) 15:09, 16 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
The War in Darfur literally started as part of the Second Sudanese Civil War, they overlapped for the first half of the former. It's just that once the main 'North Vs South' fighting was resolved the Darfur sidefront didn't end and thus became it's own thing for a couple years, hence the name. This war's main front is a continuation of the last wars sidefront.
(And also, this war's sidefront is a Pro-South militia alliance which directly traces back to the issues when they split the country and the groups active during the last civil war. So the current sidefront was the last wars mainfront and the last wars mainfront is this wars sidefront) 2604:3D09:1F7F:8B00:F5C6:8549:DAF3:8E06 (talk) 23:47, 16 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
It did not. Go read a book or the wiki page at least. Next time also cite a historian especially when coming with such claims FuzzyMagma (talk) 06:55, 17 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia goes off reliable sources so if they aren’t calling it the third Sudanese civil war then it should
just be titled the Sudanese civil war. GothicGolem29 (talk) 01:31, 8 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
It's not reliable, but the fact the biggest Youtuber covering this uses "Third Sudanese Civil War" at least is evidence of common usage 2604:3D09:1F7F:8B00:D90B:86B9:8B54:21E6 (talk) 18:34, 14 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
It's evidence one person used that title it's not really enough evidence to change the wiki title especially given YT isn't reliable. GothicGolem29 (talk) 19:46, 14 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Again, as explained above: First and Second naming were used for a specific war that continued. This war is not relevant to the 1st and 2nd wars. FuzzyMagma (talk) 15:15, 16 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Can I ask how? Because the two main factors here are essentially-
1. The continuation of unsolved issues from the War in Darfur(which was a sidefront of the Second Sudanese Civil War that continued after the main conflict resolved)
2. Continued border disputes and anti-Arab sometimes Pro-South Sudan forces in the south uprising and playing both sides(which was the main issue of the Second Sudanese Civil War and the split of the country that followed with, with several of these groups directly tracing back to there). 2604:3D09:1F7F:8B00:F5C6:8549:DAF3:8E06 (talk) 23:44, 16 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
My point is this is a direct continuation of the two main fronts and issues of the last war, except the sidefront last time(Darfur) is the main front now, and the main front last time (North-South, Arab-African divide) is the side front now. But it's the same issues and both fronts tie back to the Second Civil War and the resulting split of Sudan it caused. 2604:3D09:1F7F:8B00:F5C6:8549:DAF3:8E06 (talk) 23:48, 16 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
It’s not a direct continuation. Not sure from where did you get that. South Sudan is now a separate country and the war in Darfur is not a war for independence for Dinka and Nuer and other ethnic groups in the South. This war is not even a war in Darfur. It’s war everywhere, the RSF and their allies are not purely tribal, and the war in Darfur was between the government supported by the Janjaweed against armed groups. Now the Janjaweed is split between the RSF and SAF, the armed groups are also split. This was is not fought against Arab and non-Arabs lines. Last time I checked RSF has Arabs and SAF is also!
so what are you talking about ?! FuzzyMagma (talk) 06:53, 17 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Can we add Third Sudanese Civil War as a subtitle?

edit

Both because it's literally correct and it sees a decent bit of use 2604:3D09:1F7F:8B00:FDBF:C443:FFB6:E8EE (talk) 02:35, 13 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

If you can link reliable sources that use it that would start to build a case. CMD (talk) 23:50, 14 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Seems notable and common enough to atleast warrant being a secondary title in the first paragraph 2604:3D09:1F7F:8B00:7402:3C82:EB8E:3759 (talk) 23:01, 17 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Confusing wording

edit

A paragraph in the Background section reads:

Two civil wars – the first from 1955 to 1972 and the second, 1983 to 2005 – between the central government and the southern regions, which led to the independence of South Sudan in 2011, killed 1.5 million people, and a conflict in the western region of Darfur displaced two million people and killed more than 200,000 others.

I can't parse this. Can it be clarified, maybe divided into two sentences? Clean Copytalk 13:03, 18 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi Clean Copy, I have given it a try, what do you think? Lova Falk (talk) 08:30, 23 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
