Fastest launch acceleration
editThoughts on adding a section for fastest launch acceleration? It isn't in rcdb but it is something talked about and advertised, and is listed in the guiness book of world records -Cake~talk 12:50, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- I'd like to second the premise of having a table or two for launch coasters. they have become so commonplace they have their own sub-categories (LIM/LSM, Hydraulic, Compression) well fleshed out at this point, with multiple record swaps in the last decade. And as mentioned, it's heavily advertised and sought by enthusiasts.
- Acceleration is definitely the low hanging fruit, and since pretty much every launch coaster in existence was built in the last 20 years, the information on them is pretty simple to collect and verify.
- I haven't touched a wiki page in years, but if no one has any objection, I will gladly take the time to add this 73.51.48.197 (talk) 08:46, 3 August 2025 (UTC)
Flag removal
edit@Thrakkx:, I reverted your recent edit that removed the flag icons from the tables, but I'd like to understand your interpretation of how WP:FLAGCRUFT applies here, as well as any other relevant guidelines. If needed, we can reinstate removal.
Generally, we shouldn't use flags as pure decoration. I agree with that sentiment. Although I wasn't the one that added flags to the tables in this featured list many moons ago, I had grown accustomed to their presence over time and eventually realized their added value. In tables that list rankings on a global scale, the flags present an instant visual cue to the country of origin, which is especially helpful when scrolling through a long list of tables with a lot of columns stuffed with other data. At a quick glance in the midst of side-by-side statistics, the country in which any particular coaster resides is immediately apparent and helpful in comparison to others in the list. Unlike article prose, such a visual cue has more relevance in a list article; the table format is a different kind of presentation. Removal felt like taking a step backward.
Do editors come here expecting to see flags? No, probably not in most situations. However, their presence instantly reveals the hidden benefit, which many are likely to find beneficial. It would appear, then, that the removal comes down to matter of preference. I reviewed this discussion (MOS:ICON) and this discussion (Republics of Russia), but neither seemed to result in a clear consensus, nor did either have significant participation. Any clarification you can add here would be helpful, thank you. --GoneIn60 (talk) 19:01, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
Wooden roller coaster
editIt says that goliath is the fastest at 72 mph when its been proven that DollyWood's lightning rod is the fastest wooden Rollercoaster marking at 73 mph and a hang time of 20 second 2607:FB91:580:5D1B:8635:801C:78EA:8F91 (talk) 22:12, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
- Lightning Rod was converted to IBox track and therefore is no longer considered a wooden coaster. Blackhand1001 (talk) 01:44, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
Longest Steel Coasters Decimal Points
editI found that some of the steel coasters are listed as 1700m while some are 1700.0m, which could cause a different ranking when they are all the same length. Not sure if it's a mistake so I thought I would just add it to the talk page for someone else to consider. Thanks! RemoteTravel (talk) 01:38, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
- RemoteTravel, thanks for pointing that out. It is a limitation that sometimes happens when using the {{convert}} template, where it rounds the converted measurement. To get a more accurate conversion, we have to use the
|sigfig
parameter. I went ahead and corrected it. You'll see that 5600ft actually converts to the more precise 1707m now. --GoneIn60 (talk) 14:31, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
Highest Wooden Roller Coaster in the world
editFrom what I know, the Highest Wooden Roller Coaster is in Europe, in Poland. Zadra in Energylandia, height about 61 m 46.113.0.1 (talk) 22:09, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- Are you thinking about Zadra? If so, that's a steel coaster, not wooden. Keep in mind that coasters are defined by their track, not by their supports. Also see its entry at RCDB. -- GoneIn60 (talk) 23:09, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- My bad, I don't know how it happend (I was sure I checked it haha). Thank you for replying! 89.161.36.143 (talk) 14:12, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
Why has Kingda Ka been removed?
editKingda Ka has seemingly been completely removed from the lists it previously was a part of, instead of being greyed out, which AFAIK is what is supposed to happen (e.g. Ring Racer). Is this because it is confirmed to now be defunct and to be removed instead of Ring Racer and TT2, which are both SBNO, or was this a mistake? LB817 (talk) 18:45, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- The greying out is indeed only for SBNO coasters, my bad. LB817 (talk) 18:47, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- You are correct. Ring Racer and TT2 are both SBNO, while Kingda Ka is awaiting demolition. The park has confirmed it has permanently closed.--Astros4477 (talk) 20:01, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- Weren't there some other entries on this list removed when they closed? I forget which but it seemed like this page was being treated as a list of active roller coaster records. I think if not in the main tables closed former record holders should at least be listed somewhere here; maybe Kingda Ka's closure will change that in some way with how well-known and longstanding it was (unless I'm misremembering and that wasn't the policy). Superman - SBNO
editPosting this here because it seems to have changed back and forth a few times. According to RCDB, escape from krypton has been SBNO since the 2nd of september (I think, since rcdb is an american site). This would mean it had never held the record for height, and it should have a * next to it in all the categories, is there a reason this is the case or is it just wrong? Top Thrill 2 2025 status
editFor the IP (or any other editor) who is attempting to remove the "Still exists but not operating" status of Top Thrill 2, please do not continue to do this. The ride isn't scheduled to reopen until Cedar Point reopens for the season. In other words, the ride has not yet returned to operation. A lot can happen between now and then to delay the reopening. --GoneIn60 (talk) 17:03, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
- this is rediculous - the list is tallest roller coasters, not tallest standing but operational roller coasters. The fact the ride was down for maintenance has nothing to do with this fact. 2601:40D:8201:D5F:2EDD:BD12:660C:3955 (talk) 16:46, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
- And it is still listed in the proper position. The only difference is that it is flagged as "not operating", which is a fact. What's the problem? GoneIn60 (talk) 18:23, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
