This should deal with the leading zero that sometimes happens with dates, which is discouraged. Sceptre (talk) 12:09, 26 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Removing {{editsemiprotected}}, looks like you fixed it yourself? Pyrospirit (talk · contribs) 18:01, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikitext conversion is an inherently flawed approach

edit

I appreciate the good intent of the template writers here, but it needs to be pointed out that the problem of global specification and conversion of dates is not well appreciated.

I am proposing this template and that for end date be deprecated in favor of bot created encodings that can later be hand modified by astute authors (eg modifying for local time errors). For comments, please see discussion on the microformats project page -J JMesserly (talk) 16:44, 30 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Note that the discussion above includes a proposal to deprecate {{End date}}. Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 20:56, 3 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Template breaks tooltip preview

edit

This template, when used inside an Infobox at the top of an article, breaks the tooltip preview mechanism when the cursor hovers over a link to said article. Instead of seeing a preview of the article, all one gets is a tiny rectangle about the size of the cursor with no text or images inside. It's worse-than-useless in its present form.—QuicksilverT @ 19:11, 1 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Default date format

edit

The default date format should not be the American format. The international format would be better but then Americans would claim favouritism towards British dating. I think that "ISO" dating should be the default with both DMY and MDY formatting being specified. McLerristarr | Mclay1 06:26, 3 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

abbreviations

edit

I'd like to see the option of abbreviated month names (e.g. 12 Dec 2000). JIMp talk·cont 05:39, 13 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

New protection breaking existing pages

edit

A number of pages now have validation errors, many from using {{End date|present}}. I'm assuming this is a result of the changes from today but am not 100% sure. Would it be possible to revert or document this validation?

Some pages, such as Severance (TV series), have removed the template from their infobox but I'm not sure if that's the correct approach to take

Thanks Rogue Dev (talk) 21:09, 26 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hey Rogue, the template is documented. Can you explain what in the documentation isn't clear? Gonnym (talk) 21:12, 26 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hi Gonnym, the template is documented, but the validation changes don't seem to be. A number of pages, pre-validation, used "present" as a value to the template, which is now invalid as of today.
Should those pages remove the template and keep a plaintext "present" or should the template account for this preexisting usage? Rogue Dev (talk) 21:28, 26 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
The template expects integer input (it has always expected it, but was broken behind the scenes). The template explains this at Template:End date#Parameters. Yes, the pages should remove the template and keep "present" as plain text. This was also updated in the {{Infobox television}} documentation. Gonnym (talk) 21:36, 26 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Alright, thank you very much! Rogue Dev (talk) 21:38, 26 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Please limit error tracking categories to article space

edit

As with similar error-tracking categories, please limit error tracking categories to article space. This is usually done with {{main other}}, but I don't know how to do it in a Lua module. People generally don't appreciate having their User pages and in-progress drafts edited for this sort of thing. The error messages should display in all namespaces, just not the categories. Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 01:01, 27 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
