Template-protected edit request on 15 June 2025
editThis edit request to Template:Post-nominals/CAN has been answered. Set the |answered= parameter to no to reactivate your request. |
I'd like to request the following changes:
- Change
| A de C = A de C
to| AdeC = AdeC
(no spaces in Canada; see here and here) - Add
| FRCDC = FRCDC
(see here) - Add
| FRPSC = FRPSC
(see here) - Add
| FRPSL = FRPSL
- Add
| ECO = ECO
(see here) - Add
| FCSCE = FCSCE
(fellow) - Add
| RN = RN
- Add
| KHNO = KHNO
(King's Honorary Nursing Officer; see here) - Add
| QHNO = QHNO
(Queen's Honorary Nursing Officer) VC
is missing.
- Change
| VC = VC
to| VC = VC
- Then add something like VCb or VCs
| VCs = VC
for the British Victoria Cross. Canada's should take precedence. 2605:B100:120:7E1:7CEE:A0EE:3D78:B7D9 (talk) 01:31, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
- Change
- Also ECS for Saskatchewan. 69.158.246.181 (talk) 23:31, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
- @69.158.246.181: Hi, thanks for proposing these changes. Have they already been discussed somewhere else? Est. 2021 (talk · contribs) 02:32, 9 July 2025 (UTC)
- Saskatchewan can be added as
| ECS = ECS
. The rest still appear to be missing from the Canada template as well. 2605:B100:128:A4D7:84:8204:B75C:C66C (talk) 14:00, 6 August 2025 (UTC)
I have made the following edits to the template as it does not appear there are any objections:
- FRPSC for Royal Philatelic Society of Canada
- FRPSL for Royal Philatelic Society London
- ECO (and E.C.O. per the provided source) for Executive Council of Ontario to be displayed as "E.C.O.", again per source
- FCSCE for Canadian Society for Civil Engineering
- KHNO for Medical Household
- QHNO for Medical Household
- ECS (and E.C.S.) for Executive Council of Saskatchewan to be displayed as "E.C.S.", per this
I have not made the following edits to the template:
- Change of A de C to AdeC. Thank you for your sources, however others such as this one denote "ADC" (of which
| ADC = ADC
is already listed in the template) and also specifically states "...these individuals may use the post nominal AideC." As such, it appears to me there may be confusion so I'd like to see consensus on how to handle before changing existing template code. - Addition of FRCDC. The template already lists "FRCD" for the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. As such, I'm unsure if this would be a duplicate entry or not. If this needs to be added in addition to, or edited, please gain consensus.
- Anything related to Victoria Cross. Similar to above, editing the existing code could have wide impact. I don't disagree with your logic, but would like further input.
I am marking this as answered. If any of the non-adjusted areas need attention, please create a new section for discussion of each individually. GauchoDude (talk) 15:37, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
- @GauchoDude: Thanks for this. I'll just mention a couple of things. First in Canada, ADC, AideC and AdeC are all designations for Aides-de-Camp. While ADC is there, AideC is missing and AdeC is incorrectly spaced as A de C. ECO is still missing and I think ECO and ECS should not have full stops in them. Technically in Canada just about every one would have full stops, including PC, MP (written in sources as P.C., M.P.), but it seems there is a standard here of not using full stops for any of them, so just having those two forced with them would be strange. Alberta's ECA also doesn't have full stops. FRCDC and MRCDC are the official designations, as mentioned here, so they should be included. I'm not sure about the Victoria Cross, but if the British one is included, I'm guessing the Canadian one should also be included. Maybe adding an extra C or something (like VC = British, VCc = Canada) instead of changing the British one would be a way to add the missing Canadian one without impacting the current British usage. 2605:B100:128:A4D7:F409:3E9C:788E:219A (talk) 19:43, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
- Not sure how I skipped the ECO one. I've added that in now. As for whether they use full stops, the community would have to be in consensus there to change, in my opinion especially since it goes against what's clearly defined on government documentation.
- As for "A de C", it may be a French variation? This source in French lists « A. de C. » As such, I don't feel comfortable changing without further input.
- As for "FRCDC", I tentatively agree with you that your designation is likely correct. I can add based on the source, but I'm concerned since
| FRCD = FRCD
already exists (and per that page isn't listed)? I'd rather not touch something and break it. If there are no further comments in the following days, I can add in as a separate/sorta duplicate entry. - Not touching VC. GauchoDude (talk) 22:57, 7 August 2025 (UTC)

editThis edit request to Template:Post-nominals/AUS has been answered. Set the |answered= parameter to no to reactivate your request. |
Description of suggested change: Add (Retd) post-nominal (used for retired ADF officers) to the list of post-nominals for the AUS country code. Note the brackets/parentheses are included as part of the post-nominal.
Thanks

- Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the
Edit semi-protected
template. I oppose this change because it isn't a post-nominal and it isn't permanent, becoming obsolete on death. DrKay (talk) 09:49, 19 June 2025 (UTC)

Description of suggested change:
Request removal of full stops from provincial executive council post-nominals so they are consistent with how others are rendered.
Full stops are a stylistic choice made by that particular organization. It does not mean the letters always have to be rendered with full stops. The legislation does this because it is more formal. For example, the bills granting Alberta and Nova Scotia executive councillors the right to use the ECA or ECNS post-nominal uses full stops, but the template does not, because this is consistent with how other post-nominals have been rendered.

Description of suggested change: To Template:Post-nominals/CAN, please add VDc = VD. Apparently there were several medals in the late 19th and early 20th century all abbreviated "VD", and we need special codes for the template to link to the right article. The "VDc" shortcut already exists in Template:Post-nominals/GBR.
An example where this would be used is Charles Yardley Weaver, which currently links to Decoration for Officers of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, despite the subject never having been a naval officer.Indefatigable (talk) 21:42, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
