bulleting

edit

When we use bulleted lists in the sections, the list shows up bulleted properly for the first section, but subsequent sections are bulleted at the same level of the items on the first list. See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums. This is not helpful. -Freekee 03:53, 23 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I second this, the template is broken. Please see [1] -- intgr 04:16, 16 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I tried to fix it, and when I realised how to fix it, I didn't do it, because I realised they want this thing to look like Wikipedia:Community Portal/Opentask. So the answer is, don't use bullets.
-- TimNelson 13:07, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
There is absolutely no way that kind of format could ever work with template:todo. Article-specific tasks simply cannot be compressed into one or two words — it often takes a sentence or few, and it's useful to list potential sources as well. -- intgr 16:34, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
updated template doc's example to reflect this. Tule-hog (talk) 22:14, 1 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Absolutely - There is no readable & straightforward way to handle multiple expand/npov/etc requests in a single line. If there is a simple fix, please implement it or share the details. MrZaiustalk 14:56, 31 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Btw, it also glitches with #s. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Dust_Bowl/to_do&oldid=134825331 - Surely it's related, but just thought I'd point it out. MrZaiustalk 15:11, 31 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

One relatively simple fix that works with the various bullet types is to end each section with {{-}}. When you do, it fixes the issue of the never ending bullets. Here is an example:

Here are some tasks awaiting attention:
  • Cleanup : * Make sure applicable MoS is being followed
  • Copyedit : * Clean up prose in several sections that do not reflect a neutral, professional tone.
    • Have copyeditor go over entire article to check for tone, prose, MoS, issues, etc (after all other work is done)
  • Verify : * Double check all references to ensure proper formatting, they meet WP:RS, and include all pertinent (and available) info

Not super elegant, but works. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 15:03, 24 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Add categorize task

edit

Categorizing is a pretty major, albeit usually transparent, task for projects. I could probably spend hours just catting and verifying cats. Heck, there is even a project dedicated to that task, Wikipedia:WikiProject Categories. I think it would be useful to add a categorize parameter to the todo template. Yngvarr (c) 23:30, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

  Unresolved
Agree. This template could really use a 'Category' option. For now, 'Other' is the way to go. --Tiger MarcROAR! 05:31, 9 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

I've removed the link from the Expand bit, as that page is now inactive and only kept for historical reference. Regards, :-) Stwalkerstertalk ] 20:23, 4 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nomination to add data to the template

edit

Consider adding the following phrase to the beginning of the tasks template, after the portion that reads "Here are some tasks you can do:"

When a task is completed, please remove it from the list.

People often forget or don't think to remove an item from the list after the task has been done. Northamerica1000 (talk) 12:01, 28 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Some suggested updates to the template

edit

I have a few suggestions for modifications to this template. I have already done them in the sandbox.

  • Change the link for assess to Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment.
  • Alphabetize the list of parameters
  • Added additional parameters for:
Looks okay. Perhaps leave this proposal for a few days to see if anyone else has a comment on it? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:43, 5 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
Ok thanks, Just for info the reason I added the options for Featured article and Good article candidates and review is because these can also be automated with JL-bot. --Kumioko (talk) 12:58, 5 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
No objections, so done. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:26, 12 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Add a couple more parameters

edit

Could someone please implement the changes I made in the sandbox here?

  1. I added the following parameters:
    1. Featured list candidates
    2. Featured Sound candidates
    3. unreferenced
  2. Increased the font size. It was a bit small.
  3. Italicized the titles to make them stand out from the data

Please let me know if you have any questions. Kumioko (talk) 23:58, 10 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Kumioko. :) I notice that you changed the template from using a bulleted list to using a numbered list. It would seem more natural to me to keep it as a bulleted list, but maybe there's something I've overlooked. Could you elaborate a little on the reason you would like to change the list style? Best — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 14:09, 11 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Your probably right actually now that you say that. I think a bulleted list would be better. I'll change it back. Kumioko (talk) 14:12, 11 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Edit request on 21 May 2013

edit

Please modify:

-->{{#if:{{{other<includeonly>|</includeonly>}}}|<li>'''''Other''''': {{{other}}}</li>}}

to

-->{{#if:{{{other<includeonly>|</includeonly>}}}|<li>'''''{{{othertext|Other}}}''''': {{{other}}}</li>}}

to allow the use of customized text for the other field. Thanks. Nathan Johnson (talk) 18:41, 21 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Okay, seems uncontroversial.   Done. Please could you update the documentation? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:20, 21 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Documentation updated. -Nathan Johnson (talk) 21:57, 21 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Drafts

edit

Would there be interested in adding a drafts parameter to be able to link to the "Draft" class page (if the project uses that class)? It fits somewhere between Article requests and stubs in the hierarchy of creating articles to me. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 01:34, 20 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Agree - bumping request and adding edit template. Tule-hog (talk) 18:28, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Given all other parameters provide intrawiki links, I might propose 'Drafts' would link to WP:DRAFT. Tule-hog (talk) 18:30, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Please make the required changes to Template:Tasks/sandbox and ensure they work correctly — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:28, 10 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Request to add a para to change the top text

edit

Would it be possible to alter the template so as to have a para that allows for custom text instead of "Here are some tasks awaiting attention:" Bejakyo (talk) 06:59, 2 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Yes, and the parameter |custom text= works as in the following example:
code = {{Tasks|custom text=Following are tasks requested by readers:|requests=[[Thank you!!!]]|gan=[[Thank you]]!!!}}, which yields:

Following are tasks requested by readers:

Display in article talk pages

edit

This is super trivial - but do we feel this would look better displaying like the {{to do}} and {{refideas}} templates do in mainspace article talk pages (ie in a yellow box) - might make it more harmonious w/ the rest of header/lead templates for mainspace talk pages, and flag its importance/distinction from regular discussions imo - Asdfjrjjj (talk) 23:58, 1 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
