Karachun Hill Memorial was founded by representatives of Land Forces of Ukraine, the 16th Army Aviation Brigade from Brody, Lviv region.
In December 2014, they installed a wooden cross near the TV tower on Karachun Hill in memory of fallen comrades, who died defending Ukraine's independence on June 24, 2014.
Later, Kyiv volunteer Maryna Kvítka and servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine, SBU CSO Alpha, assisted by family of sculptors Rozhyk, started developing the memorial, inspired by the soldier's song from Karachun Hill — the first song written in the ATO and JFO zone.
For International Volunteer Day in 2021, the song dedicated to volunteers titled “Ukrainians — Together We Are Strong” was written and presented on military radio. The lyrics were by Kyiv volunteer Maryna Kvítka and Eduard Torsky. editor-in-chief of online media "Business Sloviansk", music by Petro Krasutskyi, performed by the musical band “Pobratymy” from Tarashcha, Kyiv region.
Flowers and trees from all over Ukraine are planted at the memorial complex. [2] The first songs written in the ATO — Yurii Suslo’s “What Can I Tell You” and the soldier’s song “From Karachun Hill” — are engraved in granite at the memorial complex. Inspired by the lyrics of this song, the memorial complexes "Karachun Hill Memorial", "On Hoverla mountain," and the socially responsible project marking the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence were created.
In 2024, to mark the 10th anniversary of the beginning of the ATO in eastern Ukraine, 35 memorial signs were created and installed.
For the 600th anniversary of Verkhovyna, 8 memorial signs were installed (near the youth center “Dumka,” the “Verkhovyna” Rehabilitation and Wellness Complex, Ukrprofzdravnytsia, the “Alley of Heroes of Ukraine” in Verkhovyna, near the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin of the Verkhovyna Deanery of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, commemorating 600 years of Verkhovyna, the 100th anniversary of film director Serhii Paradzhanov, the 60th anniversary of the film “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors,” the commemorative sign “Kryvorivnia — Christmas and Caroling Capital of Ukraine,” near the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Verkhovyna Deanery of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine).
On Volunteer Day 2024, ceremonial presentation was held at the Ukrainian National Information Agency “Ukrinform” with the participation of the leadership of the Government Contact Center, with which the project has cooperated since 2014.
On December 4, 2024, to mark the 10th anniversary of the project, “Ukrinform” hosted a presentation of the medals: “For the Liberation of Sloviansk” (2014), “To 80-th Anniversary of UPA” (2022), and “For the Defense of Vovchansk” (2024). [3]
