Question from Iamseunkazeem (07:45, 28 July 2025)

edit

Hello is it possible to write about a company that is legally backed in Nigeria --Iamseunkazeem (talk) 07:45, 28 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi, @Iamseunkazeem! Companies must be notable to have a Wikipedia article. A company is presumed notable if it has been the subject of significant coverage in multiple reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject. Chlod (top • contribs) 07:59, 28 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Question from JohnathanSmythenko (14:09, 16 August 2025)

edit

Hello! When I created my Wikipedia account to start editing articles on topics I'm passionate about (but not enough to start lying about them obviously ;) ), i started with the RONJA FSO system article, to clarify some things in it, and remove some bias to the invention (no matter how incredible it is). Then I saw a red link to an empty article about the organisation behind this invention, (Twibright Labs), and decided that it would be the first article of mine.

The question is, can I ask you for some advice on the article's quality? I am open to criticism, and would rather accept it now instead of letting people later read my imperfect text. Thank you in advance --JohnathanSmythenko (talk) 14:09, 16 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi, @JohnathanSmythenko! Thank you for writing a draft on Wikipedia! And also, apologies for the late reply. Looking through Draft:Twibright Labs, some more content would be better, though a lack of it is not necessarily an issue. What is an issue here is the lack of sources, specifically sources that establish notability. In general, Wikipedia writes about subjects that have received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. In order to prove that a subject qualifies under that guideline, we require articles to cite those sources that contribute to determining the notability of a subject. Regardless of format; be it on a newspaper, a book, or an online article; any reliable and independent source can work to establish notability. Unfortunately, without those sources, the article likely wouldn't get approved for publishing. Chlod (top • contribs) 09:58, 20 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Question from Kolus1682 (15:39, 19 August 2025)

edit

Hello. I am trying to edit a page that is about me to make it more correct. I think the original page was created by some students at Ontario College of Art and Design several years ago. There is a warning template at the top that says the page contains promotional information that needs to be dealt with. I do not know what Wikipedia deems as "promotional" as I didn't see any particular part highlighted. Can you help me to identify and correct this? Also I was hoping to replace the image that is currently on the page with another. Any assistance you can provide is gratefully received! Thank you. --Kolus1682 (talk) 15:40, 19 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi, @Kolus1682! I recommend that you view the conflict of interest guide when editing pages that are related to yourself. In particular, any changes to the page are best handled via edit requests rather than editing the page directly. As for the "promotional content", I can't give an assessment on what might be promotional without knowing which page this is. Usually, pages are tagged this way because they don't match the encyclopedic tone that Wikipedia uses. Our "words to watch" guide is also a useful reference. Hope this helps you know what next step to take. Chlod (top • contribs) 09:47, 20 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for that information. As you can tell, I am new to doing edits to Wikipedia and your suggestions are most helpful. It was wonderful of the art students to create a page about me all those years ago ... but some of the information was incorrect. And since I am still very much alive (thank goodness) I wanted to make sure that the entry on me was as accurate as possible. In the future I will do any further edits with edit requests rather than tinkering with things on the page directly.
The page in question is about "Mary Anne Barkhouse" and the incorrect statement was about me continuing to work with my ex. Because that statement was on my Wikipedia page, it led to people thinking that I still worked with him and recently I had been approached to do projects in conjunction with him. Our breakup was not amicable and it would be traumatic for me to be put in a situation where he was involved. I have not laid eyes on him since he walked out the door over 12 years ago, and I want to keep it that way.
I figured the best way to address this unfortunate situation from continuing to recur was to correct the root of the problem, which was the Wikipedia page. If you think I need to bring this up with an administrator at Wikipedia I am happy to do so ... otherwise the page reads ok as it is. I would still like to substitute another image, instead of ... or in addition to ... the one that is there, but perhaps I should find an objective third party to do that on my behalf?
Many thanks for any advice that you have on this matter. Kolus1682 (talk) 14:49, 21 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
