Lists at openzim not opening

edit

Cannot open list from table. Rublamb (talk) 19:46, 12 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

True, lists not opening. Nurg (talk) 22:05, 12 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yes the site at https://api.wp1.openzim.org, which powers the website, is currently having issues for the same reason as mentioned above. It likely won't be fixed before Monday/Tuesday at the earliest. Cook Islands (talk) 00:42, 13 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
This should be fixed now. The bot should run at 00:00 UTC tonight. audiodude (talk) 14:36, 14 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Not running 17 July UTC

edit

audiodude. It hasn't started from 00:00 UTC. Nurg (talk) 01:23, 17 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

The bot's access to the English Wikipedia REST API is being rate limited:
> requests.exceptions.HTTPError: 429 Client Error: 4914820 for url: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?meta=siteinfo%7Cuserinfo%7Cuserinfo&siprop=general%7Cnamespaces&uiprop=groups%7Crights%7Cblockinfo%7Chasmsg&continue=&action=query&format=json
This is likely due to new policies around API access based on over-scraping by AI companies: https://techblog.wikimedia.org/2025/06/12/apis-as-a-product-investing-in-the-current-and-next-generation-of-technical-contributors/
I don't think we can request an increased limit, so we should audit our usage of the API and try to be more efficient, or sacrifice features and ensure that the bot can recover and run without certain API access (degraded mode, but not crashing).
I've filed a GitHub issue, but I'm leaving town tomorrow and won't be able to address it until next week at the earliest. Apologies for the inconvenience. audiodude (talk) 02:57, 17 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Apart from the fact that I don't actually know anything about APIs or Bots, but surely whoever imposed the limits can distinguish between the actions/access from our bot compared to random external AI bots and only limit them? The-Pope (talk) 05:55, 17 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
There is a possibility that they could allow list our user agent or more realistically our IP address. Feel free to look into it and file a phabricator ticket. audiodude (talk) 18:51, 20 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Okay, it seems to have been working okay-ish for the past couple of days, through no effort of my own. But, we did seem to figure out what could have been contributing to the problem, over at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T400018. This has now been addressed with https://github.com/openzim/wp1/pull/959. TLDR: We thought we were sending a valid user agent with our API requests, and were attempting to do so, but a particular detail of the mwclient library we depend on meant that our UA was being discarded, so our traffic looked to WMF servers like bot/spam/abuse traffic.
Anyways, everything should not only be fixed now, but futureproofed. Thanks as always for reporting. audiodude (talk) 04:29, 23 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Sounds good. Thanks very much. Nurg (talk) 09:07, 23 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Table title

edit

I think the title "All rated articles by quality and importance" should be changed to "All articles by quality and importance" as also unassessed articles are displayed. 95.98.65.177 (talk) 10:28, 27 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Total number

edit

And I think a note must be added how it's possible that the total count (at the moment in the table 8,330,943) is higher than the total Wikipedia article count (at the moment 7,046,509) by over 1 million (?!). 95.98.65.177 (talk) 10:30, 27 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Maybe it somehow includes redirects and/or categories etc., too. I also noticed that the wikilinked "???" under the "Importance" section links to Category:Unassessed articles but shouldn't it link to Category:Unknown-importance articles? So, I think it the table should use the {{-importance}} template and not {{-Class}}. Furthermore, "Unassessed" (which is not wikilinked at the moment) should probably link to Category:Unassessed articles instead. 85.76.12.141 (talk) 11:19, 27 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
