Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Comment

Regarding slakr:

Why did my page get deleted?
I have no idea what you're talking about. What's vandalism?
If you received a warning from me and you're not logged in, you might have gotten an old warning I sent to someone who shares your IP address. On the other hand, if you've made recent edits and received a recent warning message from me and you genuinely believe that it's not vandalism, don't fret-- simply drop me a message below, because I could have simply made a silly mistake. :)

Regarding SineBot:

Why does SineBot keep signing stuff I've already signed?
All comments should have a signature that includes both a link to your user page (slakr) and a datestamp (05:12, 20 August 2007 (UTC)) (per signatures - internal links). This is most easily generated by placing four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your contributions, which makes something like "slakr 05:12, 20 August 2007 (UTC)".Reply

If you have an interwiki-linked user page, consider either creating a user page on enwiki that redirects to your preferred home wiki or simply opting out of automatic signing.

If you're still having problems after trying that, post a message below. Be sure to include diffs to make sure I can reference the problem.
I don't want my comments signed by SineBot. How do I get it to ignore me or my talk page?
Please use one of the opt-out methods listed on its user page.
SineBot forgot to sign something it should have signed.
Usually this happens because the bot isn't sure if it really should sign something, so it defaults to not signing it (e.g., in cases of complex edits). It does this to avoid being annoying. Other times, a comment might be made when the bot is down for maintenance, so the bot simply never sees it.
SineBot signed something that it genuinely should not have signed.
Please let me know-- especially if you think it's not a one-time thing. Be sure to include diffs to make sure I can reference the problem.
Is SineBot's source code available?
Not currently.
I'm signing with four tildes (~~~~) but it's still saying I didn't!
You likely enabled raw signatures. Open your preferences, click the "User profile" tab, make sure that "Treat the above as wiki markup" is NOT checked, and click Save; it should be fixed. If you have an interwiki-linked user page, consider either creating a user page on enwiki that redirects to your preferred home wiki or simply opting out of automatic signing.

UK Lawyers for Israel

edit

Hi slakr, I see you recently added page protection to Tech for Palestine. Do you think the new UK Lawyers for Israel article needs similar protection? I can imagine it may attract attention from 'special interest' groups. Thanks. Sionk (talk) 09:44, 6 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

I went ahead and did it based on the existing content of the article / its primary claims to notability, but since the article is relatively new, it might get reduced / removed / sectioned if the subject's main notability/raison d'etre isn't predominantly within Wikipedia:Contentious topics/Arab–Israeli conflict (well, unless there's actual disruption). In the future, though, note that you'll likely get faster responses by posting protection requests to WP:RFPP; I could be active one day and gone the next few. :P --slakrtalk / 10:05, 6 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Administrators' newsletter – August 2025

edit

News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2025).

  Administrator changes

  Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, G15, has been enacted. It applies to pages generated by a large language model (LLM) without human review.
  • Following a request for comment, there is a new policy outlining the granting of permissions to view the IP addresses of temporary accounts. Temporary account deployment on the English Wikipedia is currently scheduled for September 2025, and editors can request access to the permission ahead of time. Admins are encouraged to keep an eye on the request page; there will likely be a flood of editors requesting the permission when they realize they can no longer see IP addresses.

Is there any way i can report this user? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/MattSucci He has been constantly starting edit wars and its annoying and frustrating to deal with it Steven547 (talk) 16:24, 17 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

I have done nothing other than attempt to improve Wikipedia articles. I have gained consensus where necessary and I have engaged with arrogant editors when needed. To summarise, I have reverted the continued readding of unnecessary, excessive and unencyclopedic edits by obviously unqualified editors. MattSucci (talk) 17:15, 17 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
blatantly removing tons of text based off your opinion and pinging your friend when someone calls you out isn't improving anything you have been asked in the past to stop and you haven't Steven547 (talk) 17:19, 17 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Well, that is your naive opinion. Asking editors of a like-mind for advice and extra consensus, apparently, isn't improving Wikipedia. You should simply accept the fact that you are out of your depth. MattSucci (talk) 17:24, 17 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
talking with you goes nowhere as all you seem to do is tell people they aren't as smart as you and call them names you call me arrogant yet constantly bring up your "experience" whenever anyone questions you about why you constantly start edit wars over the removal of entire paragraphs of text because in your opinion its "trivia" none of that changes the fact that you have been starting edit wars despite being warned not to Steven547 (talk) 17:40, 17 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Could you please respond here where you have been pinged? You blacklisted a notable website which is run by a very notable individual. Kailash29792 (talk) 04:35, 18 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

I've been away for the past few days (and likely will be hit or miss for the next few weeks), but feel free to check the corresponding page's history to see who actually performed the action. Making use of tools like wikiblame can also help save time (and energy) in the future. --slakrtalk / 01:38, 23 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
