API to add categories automatically

edit

hi maybe here is not a appropriate place to ask this but i need an API to add categories automatically to articles. the main program is that I want to relate some items from Wikidata and add category from there to Wikipedia.

for example there is a lot of hospitals in Iran and their articles doesn't have the "hospitals in Iran" category and I want to add it automatically. میسانو (talk) 11:36, 30 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hide HotCat edits from Watchlist

edit

In my general user preferences, ticking "Hide categorization of pages" doesn't actually hide them all. So, is there a way to hide edits made with HotCat from my Watchlist? – Asarlaí (talk) 09:38, 5 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

They are just normal page edits and the fact that their categorization changes is independent of that. You are watching the page. The "Hide categorization of pages", is what happens when you watch a category. You watch the category page AND the categorization changes (members of, added or removed) to that category. —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 11:03, 5 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
I understand, thanks. I just thought there must've been a way of hiding HotCat edits, the same way we can hide AWB edits with a user script. – Asarlaí (talk) 11:16, 5 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Only autocommit if a category already exists

edit

I would like to be able to configure HotCat so that if I try to add a category that doesn't exist yet, it sends me to the diff view instead of automatically saving the edit. jlwoodwa (talk) 19:27, 28 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

HotCat randomly glitching out in Safari

edit

While using Safari 18.5 on my macOS 15.5, I keep running into an issue where the entry field for renaming a category suddenly truncates the prefix while leaving semi-transparent text in the box, and HotCat is unusable after that. Closing and opening a new tab sometimes fixes this, but not always. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 20:44, 17 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

HotCat not honoring new Watchlist Expiry setting

edit

In Preferences on the Watchlist page, I have "Add pages and files I edit to my watchlist" checked with a default time period of 1 week. When I use HotCat to replace a category (e.g.), it sets the page to be permanently watched. I know there's a setting to prevent HotCat from adding the page to my watchlist, but that's the other extreme. I just want to watch these pages for one week. In lieu of a fix, is there a possible workaround? Stefen 𝕋owers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 22:17, 26 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
