Merge into Help:Redirect?

It looks like this page Wikipedia:How to make a redirect has the same purpose as Help:Redirect#Creating and editing redirects although the information is written differently. In particular, only this page has an inputbox that helps users create a redirect. I'm thinking maybe this page should be merged into that one. Thoughts? Krubo (talk) 07:41, 2 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

I second that. Shubjt (talk) 13:30, 26 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Support. This seems to be a redundant page. C F A 💬 23:02, 11 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
agreed. Seems to be just a slightly more out of date/less comprehensive version of Help:Redirect. I don't really see the value in having both of these two pages Tomatoswoop (talk) 01:34, 13 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Support, It's better to merge. Gaplow43286 (talk) 05:54, 14 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Support Yes, they both have the same purpose. Who am I? / Talk to me! / What have I done? 15:34, 20 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Support Duplicates content. Oppose I like the idea of reframing this page as a "redirect creator". Ca talk to me! 01:08, 14 November 2024 (UTC) edited 13:37, 16 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Support. Most of what's here already seems to be covered there, and the content which isn't could be easily merged. – Michael Aurel (talk) 06:50, 14 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think sometimes a quick, simple page is easier for beginners to follow, like Help:Archiving (plain and simple). — Qwerfjkltalk 16:59, 14 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Support The information of the second article can simply be added at the bottom of the page. As both articles are discussing the same feature. Rager7 (talk) 23:47, 4 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Strong Oppose This is a page with a clean interface that does only one thing - it makes a redirect. It saves me a LOT of time. I come to this page SUPER often, and I even created another shortcut to help me find this page more easily. (I originally found this page as the first result in Google when I searched "wikipedia create redirect".) Félix An (talk) 12:12, 16 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
If you insist on removing the page under the current title, may I please suggest keeping this page under a different title, such as WP:Redirect maker or something like that? I really appreciate having a simple interface without clutter for creating redirects. (My "Strong Oppose" opinion still remains though.) Félix An (talk) 12:16, 16 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
All of the shortcuts and redirects can be pointed the exact same simple box that currently exists at Help:Redirect#With Template. voorts (talk/contributions) 01:39, 18 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
It takes more time to load the entire page when all you need is the maker... Félix An (talk) 09:34, 19 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Oppose This is a clean, simple, clear, uncluttered page that does one thing well. It's useful. Keep it. Jean-de-Nivelle (talk) 12:32, 16 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Support. This merge discussion is basically about eliminating the redundant instructions on this page, making it easier to maintain our PAGs/instructional pages. RE the opposes, see my comment above. Additionally, there is functionally no difference between a redirect pointing to a page with a box that generates a new redirect page and a section on a page that does the exact same thing. Finally, none of this is stopping anyone from copying and pasting the below onto a subpage of their user page or a new page like Wikipedia:Redirect creator if they want a "clear, uncluttered page" with only that box.
Enter the title you want to create here, and click '''Create redirect''':

<div style="float: left"><inputbox>
type=create
align=left
preload=Template:Redirect preload
editintro=Template:Redirect editintro
buttonlabel=Create redirect
break=no
</inputbox></div><div style="clear: both"  ></div>

Support merging this page into Help:Redirect. Mr. Starfleet Command (talk) 00:11, 16 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Forgot to give my reasoning, but basically same as others have said: this overlaps with the main help page, would be better merged with the relevant section of that page. Mr. Starfleet Command (talk) 00:15, 16 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

The page has been moved now, so this discussion might not be necessary anymore. Félix An (talk) 04:28, 24 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

I think at least some editors here (myself included) still think the page should be merged (moving a page doesn't alter its contents). – Michael Aurel (talk) 06:17, 31 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
This page is now the highest ranking Google search result for "create redirect wikipedia". I think it's very useful this way. This was how I found this page in the first place years ago. It's helpful for new editors that it exists and is the first Google search result. It would save time for new editors trying to figure out how to make a redirect. Wikipedia:How to make a redirectWikipedia:Redirect maker – As discussed in the merge discussion, this page's title overlaps with Help:Redirect#Creating and editing redirects. However, I (and probably many other editors) use this page as a quick tool to create redirects. It has a clean, clutter-free interface. Changing the name to "WP:Redirect maker" not only prevents the overlap, but it also more clearly states its purpose as a tool to make redirects quickly. Félix An (talk) 12:23, 16 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Support This is also a good idea. Who am I? / Talk to me! / What have I done? 13:35, 18 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Support I also agree to this move. Rager7 (talk) 16:04, 18 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Support I agree, I use this page to make redirects and this would be a more accurate name. Beikeonbeogeo (talk) 18:18, 21 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Making the instructions clearer

Hello. ive taken an interest in making redirects since I've become interested in doing a bit of copy editing for niche pages and redirects are something useful to consider for me right now.

The instructions on this page are bad. What does "redirect away from" something mean? Do put in the intended name that you want to make the redirect towards the article (eg putting in "USA" to link to United States)? the bottom example is even more confusing. If "#REDIRECT" is kept as it is, why do you put in "United Kingdom" for the redirect? Wouldn't you put in "UK" since this is a redirect to the proper article? I have a feeling like you might put the redirect in the body of the page recreated but then i dont know how to test that without using and hitting the "create" button, and i dont want to do that incase its not part of a tutorial and will instead actually cause a redirect that someone will have to go on and fix

im asking for someone to try to explain how this works to me and perhaps help me from there to make the language more clear, thank you! AssanEcho (talk) 15:30, 21 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
