Getting georeferenced VIIRS data

by jmisurec » Fri Oct 11, 2024 3:56 pm America/New_York

Dear all,
I'm a new user of the VIIRS data (having no previous experience) and I need to work with the VIIRS/NPP Day/Night Band 6-Min L1B Swath 750m product. I'm able to find the needed dataset via https://search.earthdata.nasa.gov/and download it as a NetCDF file. However, when I open it (for example in QGIS), there is no coordinate sytem defined and the raster is only in pixel-line system instead of any geographic/projected coordinate system. I realized that there is also the VIIRS/NPP Moderate Resolution Terrain-Corrected Geolocation 6-Min L1 Swath 750m product and I guess that it should be somehow used for georeferencing the DNB data. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to do this. Can anyone tell me how to proceed this?
Thank you in advance.
With best regards
Jan

The VIIRS/NPP Day/Night Band 6-Min L1B Swath 750m, short-name VNP02DNB is a Level 1 swath product which is not projected to any coordinate system. The easiest way to project these data is to use LAADS post-processing tool available from "Find Data" interface at:
https://ladsweb.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/search/order/2/VNP02DNB--5200

To learn how to use this tool, you can explore various tutorial available at:
