How to Cite Information on the Earthdata Forum

NASA has a free and open policy for data and information generated under NASA sponsorship.
Please use the following guidance to cite questions or posts referenced on the Earthdata Forum.

• When the real name of the author is known, provide it first, in inverted format, followed by the screen name in brackets.
• When the real name of the author is not known, provide only the screen name without brackets.
• Provide the date of the post
• Provide the title of the post in the title position, up to the first 20 words.
• If it’s a comment, provide up to the first 20 words of the comment
• End with the site name and the URL of the entire thread or specific post if including a comment

Here are examples of the APA Style citation:

Cite the Entire Thread
cassandra21. (2024, June 26). Low/Negative SST values in tropical region[Online forum post]. Earthdata Forum. viewtopic.php?t=5639

Cite a Post
Bailey, S. [OB.DAAC – SeanBailey]. (2024, July 02). Low/Negative SST values in tropical region [Comment on the online forum post Check the flags. If the SST seems unreasonably low, it is likely a cloud. The data are not masked]. Earthdata Forum. viewtopic.php?t=5639#p19480
