HICO file contents

by jasmine » Thu Jan 16, 2014 6:48 pm America/New_York

I was examining the contents of the HICO HDF5 files ... the top of atmosphere radiances are in the products/Lt dataset.  But what does the dataset called "hico" in the "data" group contain?  I couldn't find any metadata information within the HDF file for it.

Thanks!
Jasmine.

HICO file contents

Hi Jasmine,

When we first set up HICO processing here at the OBPG,
we were inadvertently including a copy of the level-0
data in the level-1B files we were making.  This substantially
increased the file sizes unnecessarily.  The /data/hico
dataset is now no longer included in our L1B products.
Compare, for example, these two scenes

http://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/cgi/browse.pl?file=H2013171234141.L1B_ISS_BRS
http://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/cgi/browse.pl?file=H2013351153124.L1B_ISS_BRS

and note the difference in the compressed file sizes
(337,910,091 bytes versus 139,753,524 bytes).

Regards,
Norman
