Ho visto passando su altre wiki che c'è una pagina dedicata a Wikimania 2007, con indicazioni per chi vuole partecipare ecc. Esiste anche una pagina in italiano: [http://wikimania2007.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Main_Page/it&uselang=it http://wikimania2007.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Main_Page/it&uselang=it], ma evidentemente è stata tradotta un po' come capita e andrebbe un po' sistemata. Ma se schiaccio "modifica" mi viene fuori un casino in cui non so come mettere mano (un'accozzaglia di template, ciascuno dei quali rimanda evidentemente a una pagina ma io non so come arrivarci). ::: La risposta breve è "no", non si possono dimenticare tutte le discussioni avvenute ai tempi di wikimania, perché avevano un senso. : Vorrei scusarmi per aver usato la parola "menzogne", in effetti non ho prove per potere affermare che ci sia stata mala fede quando sono state tirate in ballo sponsorizzazioni che poi sono venute meno. Comunque si, ritengo che voi membri della comitato avreste dovuto controllare meglio la solidità di queste sponsorizzazioni. Ora come ora, temo che wikimania 2007 sarà un incontro riservato solo a persone facoltose, che possono permettersi di cambiare facilmente emisfero e di far fronte a tutte quelle spese non indifferenti. Una wikimania organizzata a Torino avrebbe avuto di certo un carattere molto diverso, sarebbe stato un evento di massa, con tantissimi giovani squattrinati provenienti da tutta Europa. Well, for the record, I read the words above and I have been hurt. I have been hurt because I think the words are unfair. I totally understand as well the fact that the Italians may feel cheated. I however do not accept well Jollyrogers words. And do not plan to forgive them any time soon.

I will make sure financial statements are provided. I know them, I have been working on them, I am spending time right now to make sure to find scholarship money for as many people as possible, and I can ensure that many people are trying to make their best for the event to be a success. I will make sure that next year the decision process is more polished, to ensure fairness. However, I do not think blaming the board for any decision (even when NOT made by the board) is the way to go. Anthere

:::I do not know if all sponsorships contracts will be "readable", as some of them are in chinese... and directly made with the chinese organization. The amounts and the uses required by the sponsors should be identified though (since they are listed as patrons, friends etc...). I guess I can show you one of the international ones, but what for ? What is the information you are looking in these contracts ? Aside from scholarships, the current budget is slightly positive. We received many scholarships applications. Note that the financial statements checked for every expenses and income can NOT be available on the 6th of august, since not all bills will have been paid by then. It will rather be in september or october I guess, and adherence to the budget will be checked indeed.

Yesterday, I worked on the Wikimania budget during the early morning. I had lunch with an important guy in order to try to develop cooperation with Gabon. At 3 pm, I had to answer a journalist. Then, I worked for Foundation stuff from 10 pm till 5 am. I woke up at 6h30 to take care of my kids. And here, I am again working on this project. I spend litterally hours on this project every day. Be it monday or sunday. Be it work day or holidays. And I do that all for peanuts. Actually less than peanuts since I am entirely a volunteer. Benefit ? being told we are inept. Thanks to the inept board, when you wrote your angry email, the website was actually working. You could participate to Wikipedia, without having to care if someone paid the hosting bill, if someone cared to find the money to pay that bill, if someone cared to hire the person to take care of the accounting. Have you ever considered to thank the people taking care of that ? I understand your anger, but I would accept criticism much better if you were able to criticize what you think was poor decision, and to praise for what you think is good decision. That's is called a "pat in the back". That helps volunteers to keep working 40 hours a week for free.
