Finding a source

Tips for finding a source yourself
  • Send a request to the author(s) of research papers for a copy of their paper by email.
  • Check what sources are available to you in The Wikipedia Library – editors active for at least six months with over 500 edits, at least 10 of them in the last month, and with no active blocks have immediate access to the Wikipedia Library Bundle.
    • Available databases in the bundle include: Gale, EBSCO, JSTOR, Oxford and ProQuest
  • Consider applying for access to additional Wikipedia Library sources at The Wikipedia Library Card Platform.
    • Additional databases include: Newspapers.com, NewspaperARCHIVE.com, Project MUSE and Taylor & Francis
  • Search for periodical titles in the Wikipedia Library database index at The Wikipedia Library/A–Z.
  • Check on Google Books, or your local library or national library may be able to obtain it through an interlibrary loan or subscription.
  • Search Google Scholar for archived copies of journals in institutional repositories.
  • Check whether your alma mater's library offers electronic document delivery services for alumni, if applicable.

Note that sites like Library Genesis (LibGen) and Sci-Hub offer direct, free access to a very large range of publications, but there are legal questions around their use and neither the Wikimedia Foundation nor the Wikipedia community endorses them.

Making a request
  • A request may be an open question or you may ask for a specific journal, article or work.
  • All kinds of sources are possible here: newspapers, magazine article, databases, encyclopedias, court decisions, laws, books, etc.
  • We cannot perform full book copy requests due to copyright. Please ask for specific pages that relate to the article(s) you need them for.
  • You may contact research helpers directly or make a request on this page.
  • To receive email without disclosing your email address publicly, configure your email in Special:Preferences.
  • Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, and date or identifiers like DOI, ISBN, ISSN, PMID, OCLC, etc.
  • Indicate which Wikipedia articles are being improved.
  • Once a request has been fulfilled add the {{Resolved}} template.
  • Filled requests are archived.
  • Requests unfilled after three months will be archived.

Fulfilling a request

  • Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests.
  • Indicate which part or parts of the request is being handled so others do not duplicate your work.
  • Notify (mention) the requester using {{ping|REQUESTER_USERNAME}}.
  • You can:
    • point to a pre-existing electronic document by giving its URL ( http://... )
    • share scans of pages or documents using a file-sharing service, provided it is legal
    • upload out of copyright works to Wikimedia Commons and/ or Wikisource (but be careful that this does not breach your own institution's policies)
    • email a link or plain text to a requester using the Special:EmailUser feature but for attachments, you need to ask them to mail you first so you can reply.

Copyright tips:

  • Respect copyrights and terms of services of any online services you use.
  • Share content in a limited manner that is targeted at as few individuals as possible to achieve a specific improvement on Wikipedia. All content is shared under a presumed non-commercial, educational, fair use purpose in order to conduct research about topics on Wikipedia and/or to improve Wikipedia content.
  • Share copies privately rather than with a publicly accessible link whenever possible. Copyrighted articles from print publications or copies obtained through online databases should not be uploaded for unrestricted distribution via open websites. Preferably, do not share login access codes for entire websites; rather, share only an individual copy of a resource.
  • Remember that you take on the individual risk when sharing content, and act in a way that is comfortable and safe for you. Individual editors are solely responsible for sharing copyrighted content and assume all legal risks.

Some video game reviews and catalogs

  Stale
  • "Worms". Amiga Action (78). January 1996. ISSN 0957-4050.
  • "Christmas Games Guide". Computer Trade Weekly. No. 565. 1995-11-27. p. 43.
  • "Worms". PC Review (41, 49–51). United Kingdom. 1995. ISSN 0266-321X. — there must be a review of Worms in one the issues, perhaps in 50 to 51. Also there's possibly a preview of this game in the earlier issues around 41 but not in 41 itself. The reason for me believing so is that it was mentioned in The One magazine that PC Review also expressed interest in this game. Unfortunately, most 1995 issues of this magazine are unavailable online.
  • "Worms". PC Games (8). United Kingdom. 1995. ISSN 1351-0290. — there could be a preview of Worms in this one too as it was also mentioned in The One as one of the magazines that participated in testing the early version of the game. It shut down before the game was released, but there still may be a preview, presumably in its March 1995 issue (008).

Hello guys, looking for particular articles from some old game magazines. I'm writing an article about Worms 1995 video game from scratch in the Russian Wikipedia (it is going to replace the existing stub and become featured). I was able to find most of the needed sources online, but some are unavailable, like these. Maybe I will add more articles from other magazines to my request some time later, but for now it's just what you see.

Thank you very much for your efforts. And please ping me if you're able to help and/or comment anything because I barely open English Wikipedia. Please DO NOT archive this until the request is fulfilled. I requested it in Augist 2020, and I'm still in need of those, but it got archived, so I'm reopening this. @Coolak: Amiga Action issue 78, January 1996 is available at the Internet Archive here. PC Games issue 8, March 1995 is available here, but I don't see any mention of "Worms". The I/A does have other PC Games issues from 1995 here that you may want to check. The I/A also has issues 40, 41, 43, 47, 48 and 50 of PC Review here, but I don't see any mention of "Worms". —Bruce1eetalk 12:47, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You may also want to check out these I/A search results here and here. —Bruce1eetalk 13:28, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Bruce1ee: Thank you very much, it appears that some new magazines were uploaded to I/A since my initial request was made. I edited my request accordingly. Coolak (talk) 12:12, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Game Informer, June 1996

I am hoping that someone has a copy of the June 1996 issue of Game Informer. I am looking for information pertaining to the game Descent II, especially the review found in this issue according to the magazine's archives. Any other pages related to Descent II that may be encyclopedia-worthy would be great, but I would at least like to find out for myself whether the review has anything unique to say, or whether it is essentially just a repeat of the 23 reviews listed in the reviews infobox. Thanks in advance, FreeMediaKid! 21:46, 7 June 2021 (UTC) P.S. Sorry for not giving the page numbers. I have no idea what they would be, just that the review is in the issue. It ought to have an index, however.[reply]

Massive request - Latin American music charts of the 2000s decade

I'll be honest, this is going to be a pretty big request. I am requesting articles that list the top 10 most played songs of the week on Latin American countries in the 2000s decade. My Newspaper.com and Newspaperarchives.com accounts have expired and I am currently awaiting approval. From the Newsbank search, the earliest is from July 2003 with the publisher being named "Latam". The articles are titled "diez canciones mas populares" and from 2006 onwards is "10 canciones mas populares". Except for one article dated December 31, 1999, I cannot find articles for music charts prior to July 2003. If possible, I would prefer to get the articles zipped by year to make it easier to sort. I would really appreciate it! Erick (talk) 02:32, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to find 1993 La Crosse Tribune article on Fond du Lac Ojibwe School

For Fond du Lac Ojibwe School

I was searching Newspapers.com after on another page I found a reference:

I went to search "Fond du Lac Ojibwe school: With new school comes renewed pride " on Newspapers.com but only found a reference to the "Reader Direct Daily Menu" page, which talks about getting faxes of the latest news. Are there issues of this newspaper missing from Newspapers.com? Is there a query I'm not doing right here? I'm thinking there's an article published in that newspaper in 1993 about this school...

Aizag, generally speaking, just be aware that if you request 120 pages from a work, the likelihood of the request getting fulfilled is rather low (for any of the following reason(s): legal limits in some jurisdictions; because libraries won't supply this many pages though an ILL "scan" request; because people are reluctant to spend the time to scan 120 pages). Chapter 16 of Tom Karen's Toymaker?

Evening all,

Having been linked here from a happily resolved chat about possible copyright disputes through Google Books, thought I’d give this a shot.

Is anyone able to produce a copy of Chapter 16 of Tom Karen's Toymaker autobiography? It seems the author is talking about their time as a designer at Ogle Design, responsible for the design of the Dennis fire line of the 1980s, and I wonder whether there is anything to learn from that to add into any articles.

Think this is how it goes:

New York World

I'm looking for an article from 1865 in the New York World. the secondary source I have a picture of gives some clues to the article: A reporter visited the Pompey stone at the Albany Institute of History and Art with a "Dr. O'Callaghan" (presumably Edmund Bailey O'Callagha), Henry C. Murphy, and a James Hall. It includes the quote "It was found very carefully put away in a glass case and covered with a dust that indicated that for some years, at least, its quiet had not been disturbed." and "It must be remembered that this stone was found when there was no pecuniary inducement for the forging of such relics." That's all I know, I no longer have the secondary source. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Two books

The first book seems to be hard to find, I haven't found any OCLC of it and it isn't in Google Books, so it might not be possible to access it.

I would like to have full access to these books and see what I can take from them to add to articles related to the Istro-Romanians. They were the first two books in the Istro-Romanian language, so they are (or should be) valuable. Many thanks in advance. Super Ψ Dro 16:25, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Newspapers sources at Mike Segal

Now this will be an odd request:

There are a couple of sources in the linked article which are from an Atlantic City newspaper. I have removed links, because they appear to be to a service which is likely hosting copyright violations, as there is no way to verify whether the legitimate rights holders has provided consent for this. Since the citations are still present, as is, and since if you're unscrupulous you can go back in the article history and look at what the sources look like; somebody with more free time AND access to newspapers.com (or whichever other similar service) might be able to provide appropriate links for this which are not copyright violations.

Thanks, RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 00:52, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@RandomCanadian: You're right, those links you removed look very suspicious. Unfortunately, neither Newspapers.com nor NewspaperArchive.com have the Atlantic City Press. ProQuest has it, but only from 2006. NewsBank may have it, but I don't have access. —Bruce1eetalk 07:42, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have read some articles that lightly suggest that this work may have sufficient coverage of the term "Renewalism" to justify the existence of a Wikipedia article. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the work; could someone with access take a quick look?

Request on study on Babur erecting a skull tower of the heads of his enemies.

I would like to see this study - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Chanderi#cite_note-Chandra-5 - particularly the pages which are relevant to the ordering of the tower of skulls of the opponent if possible. I would like to see it so I can verify if it is actually the truth, since many facts about rulers in India simply turn out to be poorly backed - and more often than not, canards.
