Building News, 1903
- "Reconstruction of the Midland Hotel, Birmingham". Building News and Engineering Journal. 18 September 1903.
The Internet Archive's copy of the above volume is missing several sets of pages of illustrations, including most of pp. 375–394. These should include a copy of the image reproduced with watermark and at low resolution, on Archiseek.
Please can someone provide that image or, preferably, the set of missing pages? I have various uses for the former. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:52, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
Doing... The Archive.org scan is actually from my university, so I'll go check if the missing pages is because there was an error in the scan, or our physical copies are missing the pages. If it's the former, I can email them to you, but if it's the latter I can't help. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 19:49, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Pigsonthewing: I've got the Archiseek illustration, along with the other illustrations that were around it. Please send me an email, and I'll attach the pictures to the reply. It was between pages 399-400, and apparently was left out of the archive.org scan for some reason. Additionally, the book was extremely fragile, so I used my phone camera instead of a scanner. Should still be of relatively decent quality, but there are some fold marks. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 00:16, 10 January 2025 (UTC)

ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 20:05, 13 January 2025 (UTC)The first signs of the coming revolution were seen here in the late fifties when Johnny Devlin released his raucous version of Lawdy Miss Clawdy on Phil Warren's Prestige label. (Now you know why Phil kept cropping up as a judge on those TV talent shows.) This record sold 100,000 copies, and was the first gold record awarded to a Kiwi rocker. Six months of touring the country as a result of this monster hit had a huge influence on the aspirations of hundreds of would-be rockers who flocked to his shows. The golden age of rock'n'roll was about to dawn.

For Margaret Sanger
I did find a mention of it in Library of Congress ( https://hdl.loc.gov/loc.mss/eadmss.ms998010.3 ) but that appears to be just a typed draft of an article that may or may not have made it into the magazine. Also, I found several not-reliable websites that purport to have the text of the article, but I need a trustworthy source.

Book on "Orphic Hymns"
- Fayant, Marie-Christine (2014). Hymnes Orphiques. Paris: Les Belles Lettres. ISBN 9782251005935.
For Orphic Hymns; this book is one of the three major studies of the collection from the last 20 years. It would be really great to have all of the introduction and discussion at the front (all of the pages marked with roman numerals), the "Annexe" and indices (p. 667 to the end of the book), and the commentary (which is somewhere in pp. 1–666, probably the last part). Assuming this is not too much of the book to ask for, this would be a great help – a big thankyou in advance, Michael Aurel (talk) 22:07, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Michael Aurel: Would that be everything in the book apart from the Hymns themselves? On a side note, the TOC is available online here. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 21:41, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- @ARandomName123: Yes, everything except the hymns, as they're marked in that TOC (ie., everything except pp. 1–666) – I had been hoping for the commentary as well, which I assumed was a distinct section within pp. 1–666, but that TOC seems to indicate otherwise, meaning the commentary probably comes after each individual hymn, so better to exclude it I think (as selectively picking out all those pages would be a right pain). – Michael Aurel (talk) 22:13, 20 December 2024 (UTC)

- @Sangdeboeuf: No need for email. The quote is on p. 106, in chapter 4, titled "From the Roots of the Division
- to the Current Societal Divide". I will copy and paste the entire paragraph in context below:
- Since the early years of the new millennium, we have seen the rise of a new, more outspoken, and more audacious era of atheism. In reference to the Book of Revelation, the most popular representatives of this "New Atheism"—Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Daniel Dennett, and Christopher Hitchens—are often called the "four horsemen." According to Dawkins, however, they had also invited a "horsewoman" to the table: The Somali-born writer, filmmaker, and well-known critic of Islam, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who unfortunately could not come to the meeting which was later published under this catchy title.

Monograph of the genus Hypericum
Hello all, I'm a specialist who's done a lot of work on the genus Hypericum, but my recent work has been stymied because I can't access a source. The main corpus of work on this genus was done by Norman Robson, who produced a monograph over the latter half of the 20th century. The first few volumes are freely available, but I've been unable to find the later volumes anywhere. If anyone has access to these papers or knows where to find them I would be incredibly grateful:
- Studies in the genus Hypericum L. (Hypericaceae). 5(2). Section 17. Hirtella to 19
- Studies in the genus Hypericum L. (Hypericaceae) 5(1). Sections 10. Olympia to 15/16. Crossophyllum
- Studies in the genus Hypericum L. (Hypericaceae) 9. Addenda, corrigenda, keys, lists and general discussion
- Studies in the genus Hypericum L. (Clusiaceae). Section 9. Hypericum sensu lato (part 3): Subsection 1. Hypericum series 2. Senanensia, subsection 2. Erecta and section 9b. Graveolentia
- Studies in the genus Hypericum L. (Guttiferae) 4(1). Sections 7. Roscyna to 9. Hypericum sensu lato (part 1)
- Studies in the genus Hypericum L. (Guttiferae). 6. Sections 20. Myriandra to 28. Elodes
- Studies in the genus Hypericum L. (Guttiferae) 8. Sections 29. Brathys (part 2) and 30. Trigynobrathys
And any others you might be able to find! Thank you in advance, being able to access these works will unlock my ability to comprehensively cover this fascinating genus. Fritzmann (message me) 13:29, 29 October 2024 (UTC)

- TheAstorPastor:
Let us begin then, with the kind of narrative that can be created to tell the story of our building across time. There is evidence of Roman occupation in the area, exploiting the sulphurous waters and building the Baños de la Hedionda: the lore that Julius Caesar had been cured by the waters, ordered the baths and that a village grew up adjacent, says the emperor gave his name to the settlement. Alternatively, Casares could be from the Arabic word for fortress, al-Qasr. The ‘Moors’ invaded the Iberian Peninsula from the south and east – a Muslim mixture of Berber, Arab and Levantine peoples – under the Umayyid Caliphate in the early eighth century. The territory was taken back by the forces of Pedro, king of Castile and León (1350–1369), but in 1361, Pedro signed the Pact of Casares, by which the settlement passed back to the deposed Muslim ruler, the sultan of Granada, Mohammad V. 7 The earliest written reference to Casares was by Lisan ad-Din ibn al-Khatib (1313–1375), a vizier of the sultan, who referred to a village which formed a defensive stronghold on the Nasrid’s southwestern border.
- From page 11 of the book. No other references to Caesar in this book. So the article appropriately states this as a legend, although there is probably a better explanation for the name (Arabic origin) Szmenderowiecki (talk) 12:53, 19 January 2025 (UTC)

- Bridget, archive.is does have a copy, which I just created. In this particular case you just had to append
/amp
to the URL address. There seems to be no paywall here. Szmenderowiecki (talk) 12:41, 19 January 2025 (UTC)- Thanks Szmenderowiecki. Wouldn't have thought of using that trick. Best, Bridget (talk) 13:16, 19 January 2025 (UTC)
- Bridget, actually, I tried it in a clean browser and it didn't work. It might be that I configured uBlock Origin to block the scripts that load the paywall (which to be clear I did in the name of improving loading times of the page since my Internet sometimes can be ass, and I don't want all the tons of JS they push me). Do not need entire book; only need to know if page 312 (or any other page) of this book has a quote similar to: "could not have done it without Sanger, McCormick, and Rock."
I searched on web, and Google Books, but not much text is visisble.

He would often go out of his way to say that he never could have done it without McCormick, Sanger, Rock, M. C. Chang, Edris Rice-Wray, and many others. After the pill gained FDA approval in the United States, after sales began to rocket, and after Pincus began to read the letters from women for whom Enovid amounted to an answered prayer, his interests became more than scientific—he became a believer and an evangelist.
