Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Wikipedia. For information on retitling files, categories, and other items, see § When not to use this page.
Before moving a page or requesting a move, please review the article titling policy and the guidelines on primary topics.
Any autoconfirmed user can move a page using the "Move" option in the editing toolbar; see how to move a page for more information. If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:
- Technical reasons may prevent a move; for example, a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. In such cases, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper ___location.
- A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
- A page should not be moved and a new move discussion should not be opened when there is already an open move request on a talk page. Instead, please participate in the open discussion.
- Unregistered and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.
Requests are typically processed after seven days. If consensus supports the move at or after this time, a reviewer will perform it. If there is a consensus not to move the page, the request will be closed as "not moved". When consensus remains unclear, the request may be relisted to allow more time, or closed as "no consensus". See Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.
Wikipedia:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.
When not to use this page
Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:
- Making an uncontroversial move – if you can, be bold and do it yourself! If you can't, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Renaming a category – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming a stub template – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion (because stub templates apply an equivalent category).
- Renaming an image or other file – see Wikipedia:Moving a page § Moving a file page.
- Moves from draft namespace or user space to article space – Unconfirmed users: add
{{subst:submit}}
to the top of the article. See Wikipedia:Articles for creation. Confirmed users: Move the page yourself. - Merging two articles – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed mergers, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Splitting an article – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed article splits, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Requesting that page histories be merged – list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge.
- Contesting a move request close – use the Wikipedia:Move review process.
Undiscussed moves
Autoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:
- No article exists at the new target title;
- There has been no previous discussion about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
- It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.
If you disagree with a prior bold move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move yourself. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.
Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.
Uncontroversial proposals
Only list here proposals that are clearly uncontroversial but require administrator help to complete (for example, spelling and capitalization fixes). Do not list a proposed page move in this section if there is any possibility that it could be opposed by anyone. Please list new requests at the bottom of the list and use {{subst:WP:RM2|Old page name|Requested name|Reason for move}} rather than copying previous entries. The template will automatically include your signature. No edits to the article's talk page are required.
If you object to a proposal listed here, please relist it in the #Incomplete and contested proposals section below.
- Emerging Market Debt → Emerging market debt — Wrong capitalization; most other similar bond pages have names in proper case. —Finnancier 14:08, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
Incomplete and contested proposals
- Backpacking (wilderness) → Backpacking — "Backpacking" automatically redirects to "Backpacking (wilderness)". For some reason, the move function doesn't work for this article. —-- R'son-W (speak to me/breathe) 08:45, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
- It seems to me that the "(wilderness)" is needed, as Backpacking (disambiguation) lists 4 sorts of backpacking. Discussion. Anthony Appleyard 10:35, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
- Barry Island Railway → Vale of Glamorgan Railway — correct name —81.104.175.145 18:10, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Naming_conventions_for_German-related_soccer_articles is where the discussion for this move is. To summarize, we all agree that it is a convention on Wikipedia to use a dash for a date range in a title and that Fußball-Bundesliga and all articles like it should be moved. Now this is where I need some admin help because it starts getting complicated and I'm not sure I have the right tools to get it done. 2. Fußball-Bundesliga also needs to be moved to Second Bundesliga per English naming conventions, but all the individual seasons for both Bundesligen (Template:Bundesliga seasons and Template:Second Bundesliga seasons) need to be moved to (for example) Bundesliga 2006-07 and Second Bundesliga 2006-07 respectively. Also, the article Fußball-Bundesliga needs to be moved to simply Bundesliga while that page should go to Bundesliga (disambiguation). Ok, so here it all is in list form:
- Fußball-Bundesliga --> Bundesliga
- Bundesliga --> Bundesliga (disambiguation)
- All articles like Fußball-Bundesliga 2006/07 --> Bundesliga 2006-07
- All articles like Second Fußball-Bundesliga 2006/07 --> Second Bundesliga 2006-07
- 2. Fußball-Bundesliga --> Second Bundesliga
Thanks a lot, JHMM13(Disc) 06:59, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- I have moved Bundesliga --> Bundesliga (disambiguation). I have not obeyed the rest of the requests (removing "Fußball-" from names), because (see Bundesliga (disambiguation)) there are Bundesligen in other sports and games, not only football. Discussion. (It would also be useful to provide a list of all the names of the "All articles like"). Anthony Appleyard 12:33, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- I've started another discussion on the subject at WikiProject Ice Hockey, of which I am a member. I'll let you know what the verdict over there is regarding this move. Thanks for you help so far, and sorry about the improper placing of this move request...it's my first time using this, JHMM13(Disc) 17:22, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- Rotten Apple (Lloyd Banks album) → Rotten Apple — redundant disambig, see Rotten apple —PEJL 16:55, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- I contest this proposal. Article titles should not differ solely based on majuscule/miniscule case differences. — AjaxSmack 14:11, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
- Droop Quota → Droop quota — "quota" is common in this context. —81.104.175.145 21:22, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- Also, Election Day Registration → Election-day registration, for the same reasoning. 81.104.175.145 21:35, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- It is proposed that Carer be renamed and moved to Carers, for the reason that carer is merely a dictionary definition of an individual in an unpaid caring role, whilst Carers is a widely-used term in most English speaking countries to denote a social and political class or movement of persons who look after an elderly or disabled relative or friend without payment. Excalibur 19:46, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- Voluntary caregiver was moved to Carers yesterday (violating the naming convention preferring singular titles and quite possibly WP:ENGVAR as well). A move to Carer would have required a listing here and wouldn't have been uncontroversial - for that matter, the target page wouldn't have been a redirect, although it quite possibly should be. For that reason, Carers should be moved back to Voluntary caregiver, and then we can discuss the correct ___location of the page in a properly-listed discussion here. Dekimasuよ! 23:38, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- Although not a binding discussion, the Voluntary caregiver title was agreed upon as the result of a previous AfD for "carers": Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Carers. Dekimasuよ! 23:41, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- Return carers to voluntary caregiver, merge the stub at carer with voluntary caregiver, then discuss moves if desired. — AjaxSmack 14:11, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
- Buy (town) → Bouy (town) — The title has been misspelled. The name of the town shall be spelled as "Bouy" in English. —Mistreater 10:33, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- Mario Strikers Charged → Mario Strikers Charged Football — Strikers Charged = NA name, Charged Football = PAL name. NA version is unreleased, while PAL version is released, has been high on the sales charts in most PAL countries, is receiving television advertisement, and it has superior news coverage (discovered by analyzing the Google news articles which discuss the NA version and which discuss the PAL version). - A Link to the Past (talk) 21:51, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Please use the correct template: see the instructions above. Do not attempt to copy and paste formatting from another listing. |
- Non sequitur (absurdism) → Non sequitur (language) —(Discuss)— The non sequitur is more a general feature of language, than a specifically absurdist statement. —McGeddon 12:12, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
- Nazi mysticism → Nazi occultism —(Discuss)— 'Nazi occultism' does not fit the topic exactly either, but there is no other name I can think of and it would be much better than 'Nazi mysticism'. This is explained in some more detail on the discussion page. —Zara1709 00:45, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
- Bill and Tom Kaulitz-Trümper → Bill and Tom Kaulitz —(Discuss)— This is the family name by which the twins are best known and thus is in line with WP naming convention. Also in live with the non-English language WP articles. —Barliner 23:33, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- Closure (Chevelle song) → Closure (song) the article for Closure (song) is blank, so to make things easier change it. Skeeker 11:31, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- Apur Sansar → The World of Apu —(Discuss)— Consistency with Wikipedia:Naming conventions (films), which states that we should use the title under which a film was released in the English-speaking world —Cop 663 13:29, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- Falun Gong → Falun Dafa —(Discuss)— this page should be named Falun Dafa since Falun Dafa is the current name of the practice, see http://FalunDafa.org --HappyInGeneral 16:29, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- Red Army atrocities → Soviet War Crimes —(Discuss)— To remove POV title and to comply with Japanese war crimes, German war crimes and Allied war crimes. Bogdan 03:28, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- Street Fighter: The Movie (video game) → Street Fighter: The Movie —(Discuss)— The game is named Street Fighter: The Movie, the film is titled Street Fighter. The film's page is Street Fighter (film), so there shouldn't be a problem. —JohnnyMrNinja 23:12, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Old City → Old City (Jerusalem) —(Discuss)— Consensus on talk page that it should be moved. Article is about Jerusalem's old city only, and should be disambiguated. Most of the time, the phrase refers to other cities. —nadav (talk) 22:09, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Kaneko (video game company) → Kaneko —(Discuss)— Everything that links to Kaneko is related to the company, the other entries are part of someone's name. —JohnnyMrNinja 21:39, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Millennium Dome → The O2 —(Discuss)— It has now officially opened as the O2 and is referred by the media as the O2. Every other UK venue is also referred to by its current name. —Tbo 157 16:01, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Grave Danger (CSI episode) → Grave Danger —(Discuss)— There are no other articles named Grave Danger, so other uses of the phrase should go on a disambiguation page with the episode of CSI in the top slot. Notably, a graphic novel named Grave Danger is questionably notable, as it is self published on Lulu.com. —Editus Reloaded 09:38, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- M*A*S*H: A Novel About Three Army Doctors → MASH: A Novel About Three Army Doctors —(Discuss)— That is the correct name of the original 1968 novel, as can be seen by the cover reproduced in the article. The title with the asterisks was created for the movie poster. —Walloon 09:13, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Battle of Buon Me Thuot → Battle of Ban Me Thuot —(Discuss)— In keeping with convention that battles retain their historical names and spellings (e.g., Battle of Iwo Jima, not Iōtō; Siege of Antioch, not Antakya; Siege of Leningrad, not St. Petersburg), this should be moved to Ban Me Thuot. Alternatively, it should be moved to Buon MA Thuot, since that is the current transliteration for this town. —Groggy Dice T | C 07:31, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Ford Prefect (car) → Ford Prefect —(Discuss)— The car is the main subject here and anything else should be disambiguated. —Reginmund 04:25, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- John, Crown Prince of Portugal → João, Prince of Portugal —(Discuss)— I proposing this change since the title Crown Prince of Portugal was never used by the Portuguese monarchy, the tile used was Prince of Portugal; all other articles on Portuguese princes and infantes use the Portuguese form of the name; and all the other users of the title "Prince of Portugal" are in the form "Name (in Portuguese), Prince of Portugal" (see Joana, Princess of Portugal and Afonso, Prince of Portugal) —Joaopais 00:52, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Anton van Leeuwenhoek → Antoni van Leeuwenhoek —(Discuss)— There are many common versions of this man's first name: Antoni, Antonij, Antonie, Antony, Anthony. But Anton doesn't seem to be that common, and is quite different from his actual name. —AecisBrievenbus 00:20, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Osteopathic medicine → Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine —(Discuss)— To try and make the medical education articles parallel each other, I believe that this article should be renamed to Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (to match Doctor of Medicine). This article already mostly describes the DO degree, so the title would be appropriate. Criticisms that the article is US focused would be moot, as the DO degree is only offered in the US (as far as I know). Discussion of the differences between the education of MDs and DOs should be addressed mostly in Medical education in the United States. Information pertaining to the word osteopathy would be in the osteopathy article, which would link to the DO article. —Scott Alter 23:03, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

- Has been posted at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Medicine#Medical education for a week now. No one there seems to be interested in medical education, so I am attempting to revamp this on my own. The only opposition seems to have been due to a misunderstanding, but I am still awaiting a reply. After a few more days of waiting, I would like to be bold and have the articles moved. I can't do this on my own, since the articles have trivial histories. They can always be moved back, though I doubt it would be desired. --Scott Alter 00:12, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Allopathic medicine → Allopathy —(Discuss)— This article mostly pertains to the term allopathy. By changing the name of the article, the focus will shift from defining conventional medicine as allopathic to what allopathy means. This should alleviate some of the controversy and arguments indicated in the discussion at Talk:Allopathic medicine. Conventional medicine can be discussed in another article (maybe Medical education), and differences between MD and DO can be discussed in Medical education in the United States, Doctor of Medicine, and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. —Scott Alter 22:51, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

- Eric of Good Harvests → Eirik Arsale -(Discuss)- "Eric of Good Harvests" doesn't exist outside Wikipedia (except in copycats), and the only known translation of "Erik Årsäll" is "Eirik Arsale". Then "Eirik Arsale" should be used, or possibly "Erik Årsäll"—Said: Rursus ☺ ★ 19:16, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- Rursus has requested that this article be moved over a redirect, in spite of lacking consensus for the move. IMHO, the article should not be moved before consensus has been reached on Talk:Eric of Good Harvests.--Berig 21:32, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- List of City Commissioners of Dayton, Ohio → Politics of Dayton, Ohio —(Discuss)— I propose merging these two lists and forming into a broader article, not as listlike and giving a fuller picture —Chris 18:01, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- Election Results, Dayton, Ohio, Municipal Court Clerk → Politics of Dayton, Ohio —(Discuss)— I propose merging these two lists and forming into a broader article, not as listlike and giving a fuller picture —Chris 18:01, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- Evolution (philosophy) → Evolution (integral thought) or Evolution (religion) - It appears that that a group of people who are interested in Integral thought as propounded by various New Age thinkers are portraying their beliefs as "philosophy." See Involution (philosophy) below. Gregbard 21:15, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- Through Silver In Blood → Through Silver in Blood —(Discuss)— Capitalization of the word "in". The target page currently redirects to Neurosis (band), which is confusing for users who don't know that there is already an article. It should be deleted and then replaced. —= ∫tc 5th Eye 16:18, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- World's largest airlines → World's largest airline — The naming conventions prefers singular terms. A clueless user recently moved this to The World's largest airlines, and while I was able to remove the "The", I could not remove the "s". —Huaiwei 12:22, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

- Gary Jones (actor) → Gary Jones —(Discuss)— 37 out of the first 40 Special:Whatlinkshere/Gary Jones pages refer to the actor (primary meaning), 1 to a footballer, 2 to a costume designer who has no article and is not even listed on the disambiguation page. I already moved Gary Jones to Gary Jones (disambiguation) to make room but the rest requires an admin. Potentially controversial because Gary Jones was turned into a dab page two weeks ago without fixing the incoming links. If the actor got moved back to Gary Jones, a {{otherpeople}} would also do, and the incoming links wouldn't need to get fixed. —– sgeureka t•c 13:42, 24 June 2007 (UTC) Request formatting completed at 03:52, 26 June 2007 (UTC).
- St. Louis Blues (hockey) → St. Louis Blues —(Discuss)— From the links to St. Louis Blues, it is apparent that this is the primary topic for the title. Thus, I have moved the dab page to St. Louis Blues (disambiguation). This page can be moved to the plain title, since the parenthetical is not a part of the official name. The redirect tag at the top of this page can be replaced by an otheruses tag. Is there consensus for that setup? —Dekimasuよ! 02:35, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- Involution (philosophy) → Involution (religion) —(Discuss)-- the concept described is an entirely religious subject. perhaps 'philosophy of religion,' but not 'philosophy'. Gregbard 02:17, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- Medical intern → Internship (medicine) —(Discuss)— Move to parallel the titles of other levels of medical education: Residency (medicine) and Fellowship (medicine). Internship (medicine) already exists with an edit history, so page could not be moved. —Scott Alter 00:18, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- Iwo Jima → Iōtō —(Discuss)— The official name of the island has been changed. A previous request to move to "Iwo To" was unsuccessful, and spawned this request, started on the 24th. Dekimasuよ! 00:09, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- The Stars and Stripes Forever (march) → Stars and Stripes Forever —(Discuss)— Official title as penned by Sousa does not contain the word 'the'. —Upholder 23:04, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
- Athens, Georgia → Athens-Clarke County, Georgia —(Discuss)— As of 1991 Athens, GA does not exist officially, but it became a unified government called the Athens-Clarke County government. To the U.S. Census Bureau and the state of Georgia Clarke County and Athens-Clarke County exist, but not just Athens. Georgia has small counties in land area size and Clarke county is one of the smallest in Georgia, so rather than the previous city annexing most of the county there was a unique situation where the city and county government merged and became one. The page for Athens-Clarke County, Georgia has been created before, but it currently just a redirect page. —Cwkimbro 18:02, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

- Peta (prefix) → peta- —(Discuss)—All prefixes should be moved to prefix- titles, as this is the standard way prefixes themselves are talked about and listed in dictionaries, and so that the (prefix) disambig isn't needed. - Forward reference → Forward declaration —(Discuss)— "Forward declaration" is the first term covered in the article, and the one with an unambiguous meaning. "Forward reference" (as explained later in the article) may be a synonym of "forward declaration", or it may refer to something else. —Quuxplusone 22:05, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- Colin Kâzım-Richards → Colin Kazim-Richards —(Discuss)— While the Turkish origins of part of this footballer's name are acknowledged, and rightfully a source of pride, the man in question was born, and that birth registered, in the UK, and therefore the legal registration of his name is without diacritics, as is the expectation of Wiki convention. The name is usually rendered in the standard letters of the English alphabet in UK sources, thus addressing the most general rule overall.
