Mathcore
Il Mathcore è un sottogenere del Metalcore[1] riconosciuto per avere un alto livello tecnico[2]. Questo genere trae le radici da band come Deadguy, Converge, Kiss It Goodbye, Training for Utopia, Botch, Turmoil, Coalesce, Bloodlet, Groundwork, Resurrection, Acme, Nerv, e Starkweather[3].

La musica è caratterizzata solitamente da riff divergenti e tecnici, con strutture complesse[4] e testi solitamente incomprensibili. In questo stile, i pezzi tendono a variare dalla durata di pochi secondi, fino ad arrivare oltre ai 15 minuti, ed è caratterizzato raramente da una struttura convenzionale, come spesso negli altri generi. Le band mathcore, includono più influenze musicali, e sono spesso categorizzati diversamente da critici e giornalisti.
Poiché il Metalcore è un incrocio tra Hardcore Punk e vari tipi di Metal Estremo (Thrash/Death), le fasce come Converge, Inner Surge, e The Dillinger Escape Plan[5] sono definiti spesso come "Hardcore Punk", ed ancora altri, come As the Sun Sets e Daughters sono etichettati come Grindcore o Noisegrind.
Altri stili di musica, come il Blues Rock e il Jazz[6], sono stati riconosciuti per aver ispirato diverse band mathcore.
