Aram Moghaddassi (born February 1999) is an American engineer who has held senior roles in the United States Federal Government and at Elon Musk owned Neuralink and X Corp. He currently serves as the Chief Information Officer at the Social Security Administration. [1]

Early life and education

Raised in Syosset, NY, Moghaddassi graduated from Syosset High School in 2017. During high school, he competed in the Lincoln–Douglas debate format where he was the 2017 New York State varsity champion. [2]

Moghaddassi graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Applied Mathematics from University of California, Berkeley in 2021. He served as an undergraduate researcher in Berkeley's Computational Cognitive Neuroscience Lab under Professor Anne Collins [3] and at the Santa Fe Institute where he worked on the Hopfield Network [4].

Career

In January 2021, Moghaddassi began working at Neuralink during his fourth year of university and completed his degree concurrently. He is listed as an inventor on a 2022 patent for "Neural Signal Compression for Brain-Machine Interface" filed by Neuralink. [5]

In December 2022, Moghaddassi joined Twitter following the Acquisition of Twitter by Elon Musk [6]. During this period, Twitter underwent a major restructure, including a reduction in force, cost cuts, and policy changes (such as the December 2022 Twitter suspensions). He stayed with the company following the transition to X Corp. and was also part of xAI (company), listed in the org chart as an "xAI Partner" [7].

In Februrary 2025, it was reported that Moghaddassi was part of a four person team that the Department of Government Efficiency planned to install at the Treasury Department [8]. It was also reported that he held roles at the Department of Labor and Department of Homeland Security.

In March 2025, Moghaddassi was interviewed by Bret Baier on Fox News alongside Elon Musk and six other senior DOGE staffers. He spoke about improving benefits and reducing fraud at the Social Security Administration [9].

In June 2025, Moghaddassi was formally appointed to be Chief Information Officer at the the Social Security Administration [1]. Following his appointment, he was seen at SSA's headquarters with Edward Coristine, who had also taken a position with SSA [10].
