History and Overview
edit3 Pie Squared was founded in 2017 by Stephen Smith to address the operational and regulatory challenges commonly faced by ABA business owners. Prior to founding the firm, Smith had led operations at an ABA practice he started alongside his wife, April, which provided him with direct insight into the industry’s administrative and compliance needs.[3]
April Smith has been involved in the ABA field since the early 1990s. The couple moved from Virginia from South Carolina hoping that April would find work in the field, but quickly realized there were a lack of opportunities available, which led them to start their own business in the early 2010s.[4] They scaled and exited a seven-figure ABA business before pivoting to help other entrepreneurs works towards similar goals.[5]
ABA Business Leaders Podcast
edit3 Pie Squared produces a podcast called the "ABA Business Leaders Podcast", hosted by both Stephen and April Smith. Started in 2021, the podcast now has over 150 episodes tackling a variety of ABA related topics.[6]. The podcast features discussions on business strategy, industry trends, ethical dilemmas, and practice management for ABA providers.[7] Episodes range from full-length interviews to shorter “Wisdom Slice” segments that offer practical advice on issues such as scheduling, billing, budgeting, and staff management[8]. The podcast frequently ranks in the top 10 ABA podcasts globally[9]
Reach and Impact
editSince its founding, 3 Pie Squared has supported more than 1,000 ABA practices across the United States.[10] The company’s resources and consulting services have been adopted by organizations of varying sizes, from new start-ups to established multi-___location providers.
