The General Groninger Student Rowing Association Gyas (Dutch: Algemene Groninger Studenten Roeivereniging Gyas), or A.G.S.R. Gyas is a Dutch student rowing association based in Groningen. Founded on the 12th of May, 1964[1], it is the largest student rowing association in the Netherlands, with over 1400 members[2].
Competition Rowing
editCompetition Rowing (Dutch: Competitieroeien) is the more informal type of rowing within Gyas. Despite some requirements, competition rowing is aimed more at combining Gezelligheid with rowing than it is aimed at achievement within the sport.
Contest Rowing
editContest Rowing (Dutch: Wedstrijdroeien) is the most intensive form of rowing in Gyas. Requiring students to train six times a week, and forbidding the consumption of alcohol throughout the rowing season, Contest Rowing is aimed at achievement in both national and international contests.
