Betanet

edit

Betanet, also referred to as "Internet 2" by some, is a project and design for a secure, censorship-free internet first proposed by Ravendevteam in August of 2025. After an announcement on YouTube, the project would gain mass recognition from large content creators and media outlets. During its rise, several people would form teams to create the requested software by Ravendevteam but quickly abandon the project due to issues regarding its creator and funds.

Creation

edit

While the creation process of Betanet is not known, there are several statements from its creators explaining the need for its creation. The proposal for Betanet was created due to the mass censorship that the internet was facing at the time. It was designed to be a way for internet traffic to mix in with Betanet traffic, in hope that if censorship were to be used against one, the other would also be limited. However, what made Betanet stand out is that the creators of it did not release software for Betanet, but rather a specification sheet for software to be a allowed for connecting to Betanet.

Controversies

edit

Betanet and its main creator would face several controversies after its announcement. This is due to the speculation of an AI generated specification sheet, large leaps in project scope, similarity to Tor, contradictions between specification sheets and public statements, and dismissal of concerns.

AI usage

edit

When looking into the specification sheet provided by K0, the apparent lead developer of Betanet and Ravendevteam. The specification sheet returns high possibility for being AI generated by ChatGPT. While never being directly addressed by K0 or Ravendevteam, K0 has mentioned on several occasions that with he has a bad memory which is why he uses AI generative tools. This was one of the many issues covered by YouTuber "Oscar" in the video "Open Source's Biggest Fraud (Betanet)"[1] in August of 2025.

When questioned by a community member about how a firewall would impact the usage of Betanet, K0 resorted to using ChatGPT to answer the question instead of by knowledge of networking and network security.

Large project scope

edit

Ravendevteam when Betanet was proposed had existed for less than half a decade, releasing smaller projects that handled automation of mundane and repetitive tasks. One of which was designed to de-bloat Windows based systems, but ended up bricking the device instead. This is due to the project outsourcing it's core logic to other projects that do the same thing. With the team having at the time nine projects to their name, the leap from smaller Python based projects to a new internet left the community in question over the ability to deliver such a product.

K0, the lead developer for Betanet has commonly confused and misunderstood internet protocols. Claiming that HTTPS is censored, HTTPS is the only method for connection to web-servers.

Similarity to Tor

edit

Betanet's overall design has several similarities to the Tor network and the idea of Tor. This is due to both being privacy centered, using encryption and specialized routing to mask or anonymize the user. What sets Betanet apart from Tor is that in the initial proposal Betanet was designed to work within a normal web-browser and no specialty software.

Contradictions

edit

K0 and Ravendevteam have contradicted what is stated between the initial specification sheet and public statements several times. Version 1.1 of the specification sheet called Betanet as "a fully decentralised, censorship-resistant network intended to replace the public Internet.", yet in the video "Explaining Betanet" K0 claims Betanet is "just a protocol". Even though at the time the most recent standard was version 1.1. Leading to confusion between which source is correct within the community.

Dismissal of concerns

edit

When prompted with potential flaws over the specification sheet, K0 would attempt to stop others from joining the discussion via closing the issue before other's could comments on the potential issue, forcing the user to try and fix it themselves inside of a proposal for a new specification sheet. This can be seen in the Github repository for Betanet.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8] As stated in the video "Open Source's Biggest Fraud (Betanet)"[1], several people with experience outweighing K0 and Ravendevteam have discussed how there are several flaws in the initial proposal that could lead to DoS attacks and de-anonymization.[4][8]
