Borislav “Bobby” Valchev (born November 18, 1982, in Sofia, Bulgaria) is a Bulgarian singer, pianist, trumpeter, composer, and music educator. Based in Dubai since 2010, he has performed internationally at major festivals, cultural events, and corporate stages, and has collaborated with a wide range of Bulgarian and international artists.
Early life and education
editBobby Valchev was born in Sofia, Bulgaria. He began piano studies at the age of five and at six appeared on Bulgarian Nationalal Radio performing “Let It Be” [1]. From 1990 to 1996, he was a member of the Sofia Boys Choir, touring internationally and receiving awards at competitions in Italy, Germany, and Spain.
He studied at the National Music School “Lyubomir Pipkov” (1996–2001) as a pianist and trumpeter, performing with the Sofia Wind Orchestra and the Botevgrad Brass Band at festivals in Switzerland, Austria, and Germany.
In 2007, Valchev completed two master’s degrees at the National Academy of Music “Pancho Vladigerov” in Sofia, one in Pop and Jazz Piano and another in Pedagogy and Music Theory [1]. He also took part in a jazz improvisation masterclass with Milcho Leviev, working as his assistant [1]. In 2008, he received a scholarship to study jazz piano at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London [1].

editDuring the 2000s, Valchev performed as a pianist, arranger, and musical director in projects with Bulgarian artists including Vassil Petrov, Camellia Todorova, Orlin Pavlov, Galia and Miro, Villy Kavaldjiev, Vesela Neinsky and Dessy Tenekedjieva [1]. He also collaborated with international musicians such as Claude J. Woods (Earth, Wind & Fire Experience) and performed with George Benson, Marcus Miller, and Billy Cobham [1].
Since relocating to Dubai in 2010, Valchev has taught piano, trumpet, voice, and theory at GEMS Education and performed across the region.[2] He has appeared at Dubai Jazz Festival, Dubai Opera, Formula 1, Dubai World Cup, and Expo 2020 Dubai, as well as regional events including the Mother of the Nation Festival, Sharjah Music Festival, International Music Festival Bahrain, and the Kuwait Music Festival.[2]

editValchev’s work combines classical training with jazz improvisation. He emphasizes spontaneity in performance, often described by his principle “Never twice the same” [1]. His career spans both performance and education, and he has worked as a cultural link between Bulgaria and the United Arab Emirates.
