Die Wilde Jagd (German for The Wild Hunt) is a German electronic music project founded in 2015. The project was initiated by Sebastian Lee Philipp in Berlin and Ralf Beck in Düsseldorf. Since the late 2010s, it has functioned as the de facto solo project of Sebastian Lee Philipp, who continues to record and perform under the name.[1] Beck stepped back after the debut album but remained involved as co-producer on the albums Uhrwald Orange (2018) and Haut (2020).[2]
History
editSebastian Lee Philipp and Ralf Beck had previously collaborated under the name Der Räuber und der Prinz, releasing material on the Desolat label.[3] In 2015, they launched Die Wilde Jagd with a self-titled debut album on Bureau B.[4]
In 2020, Philipp composed the commissioned piece Atem for Roadburn Festival, further solidifying the project's experimental reach.[5] This was followed by the fourth studio album Ophio, released in February 2023.[6] The album was praised for its blend of ambient, synth-driven soundscapes and experimental structure.[7]
In 2025, he released Lux Tenera – A Rite To Joy, a major orchestral collaboration with the Grammy-winning Metropole Orkest, conducted by Simon Dobson. Commissioned by Roadburn Festival, it premiered in April 2024 and was released as a full album in January 2025.[8] The piece was described as a “symphony of respite” with hypnotic, ritual-like orchestral textures.[9]
