Fil Eisler (born Jan Filip Eisler) is a Czech-born composer for film and television, known for his work on popular series including Empire, Revenge, and UnReal, as well as feature films such as Proud Mary and How to Be Single.
Early life and education
editEisler was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic). He moved to the United Kingdom as a teenager and later studied at the University of Leeds. He continued his studies in the United States as a Fulbright scholar at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music.[1]
Career
editEisler began his music career as a touring guitarist and session musician before transitioning into film composition. He first gained recognition with his work on Showtime's Shameless. His breakout came with ABC's Revenge, where his score contributed significantly to the show's emotional tone. He later composed music for Fox’s Empire and Lifetime's UnReal, both of which received critical acclaim.
In film, Eisler has composed scores for projects including the action film Proud Mary (2018), the romantic comedy How to Be Single (2016), and the buddy-cop comedy CHiPs (2017). He has also scored several documentaries, such as Newtown (2016), The Human Trial (2022), and A Small Light (2023), the latter earning him an Emmy nomination.
Eisler is a frequent collaborator with major studios and streaming platforms including Netflix, Warner Bros., and Amazon Studios. His music often incorporates live performance elements and custom-built instruments, blending analog and digital textures.
