History

edit

Migdal Filmes was founded in 2009 by Iafa Britz, an experienced producer in the Brazilian audiovisual industry.[1] Over the following decade, the company expanded its portfolio, producing more than 30 titles across film and television.[4] Its theatrical releases have drawn millions of viewers in Brazil— for instance, Minha Mãe É uma Peça 3, part of a comedy franchise, attracted more than 11 million moviegoers at the box office.[7]

The company gained recognition for producing popular comedies such as Minha Mãe é uma Peça and De Pernas pro Ar. Its output also included biographical and socially oriented projects, expanding its presence in different genres.[3][4]

In television, Migdal produced several seasons of the comedy series 220 Volts, created by Paulo Gustavo[8], which was broadcast nationally and reported in mainstream outlets such as O Globo when its third season filmed in New York.[6]

By the late 2010s and early 2020s, Migdal strengthened ties with streaming services. In 2020, the trade publication TodoTV News reported on its collaborations with Netflix, highlighting the company’s ability to adapt to changing industry distribution models.[5]

The company’s role in the Brazilian audiovisual sector has been recognized at industry events. In 2024, Variety highlighted Britz as a featured panelist at Expocine, alongside executives from Warner, Universal, Paris Filmes, and Cinesystem, discussing the future of cinema in Latin America.[2]
