PolicyMe is a Canadian digital insurance company based in Toronto, Ontario. Founded in 2018, the company only offers life, critical illness, and health and dental insurance products through an online platform.[1][2]

History

edit

PolicyMe was founded in 2018 by Andrew Ostro, Laura McKay, and Jeff McKay. It started as a digital broker and launched its own life insurance product in 2021 through a partnership with Canadian Premier Life Insurance Company, now known as Securian Canada.[3]

In 2022, the company launched it's second product, critical illness insurance, followed by health and dental insurance in October 2024.[4]

Since its founding, PolicyMe has raised a total of CAD $51 million. It closed a seed round of $3.3 million in 2020, followed by an $18 million Series A in 2022.[5] Between 2023 and 2025, the company received $30 million in investment from Blue Cross Life and Securian Canada.[6]

Technology Services

edit

In addition to its own consumer-facing insurance products, PolicyMe provides its technology platform to insurance carriers through white-label partnerships, including Blue Cross Life and Securian Canada.[5][7]

Awards

edit

In 2021, PolicyMe was named "Most Innovative Family Life Insurance Brokerage – Canada" by Wealth & Finance International.[8] That same year, co-founder and COO Laura McKay was included in Bay Street Bull’s "Women of the Year" list for her work at PolicyMe.[9]

Media Coverage

edit

After the expansion of the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), PolicyMe co-founder and CEO Andrew Ostro appeared on CP24 Breakfast to comment on healthcare costs in Canada.[10] In June 2025, CBC News covered PolicyMe’s 2025 Health Insurance Access and Affordability Study, which examined healthcare affordability.[11]
