Pyin Khone Gyi is a village which strategically located in Kalay Township, Kale District, Sagaing Region, Myanmar. Geographically located in the Kale-Kabaw Valley, Pyin Khone Gyi is known for its fertile agricultural economy, Christian society, Chin cultural heritage, and local educational institutions.[1]
Geography
editPyin Khone Gyi is situated in the western part of Sagaing Region, near Chin State and India Border. It has two main rivers for irrigation, known as the Segyi River and Neyinzaya River. The village is located approximately 5 miles (8 km) from Kalaymyo, the nearest town, providing major access to markets, healthcare, and administrative services, and approximately 5 miles far from Letpanchaung village. The village is not too far from the Chin Hills and the Mountainous region of Patkai Range.[2]
Economy
editAgriculture is the primary economic sector in Pyin Khone Gyi, with farmers cultivating rice, corn, and beans. Small private livestock farming also contributes to local livelihoods and professions. Economic and business exchanges occur in Tahan and Letpanchaung Bazaar, famous trade centers in Kalay Township, where villagers sell products and essential goods. Trade connections within Kalaymyo further facilitate economic profits and traditional connections between local people.[3][4]
Education
editPyin Khone Gyi has a high school, where students attend secondary education and prepare for university entrance examinations. The school follows Myanmar's national curriculum. There is no university or vocational college in a village, a student who passed matriculation examination goes for further study at Kalay University or a foreign university.[5]
Culture
editPyin Khone Gyi is predominantly inhabited by Chin Ethnic communities, with Christianity as the major religion. The Falam and Ngawn Language(dialects) of the Chin language are commonly spoken. Religious life centers around local churches, where villagers participate in worship and social events. Cultural traditions include Christian celebrations such as Christmas and Easter, alongside Chin Festivals such as Khuado Puai and Chin National Day.[6][7]
Infrastructure
editThe village is connected to nearby towns via local roads, with the Kalaymyo-Yazagyo Dam-Tamu Road serving as a key transportation route linking Pyin Khone Gyi to Kalaymyo and Tamu[8][9]
Public Places and Library
editPyin Khone Gyi has only a government-owned library and a school library with a classic structure of old books, while it can not still provide modern literature and books. Villagers sometimes go to Khaikam Elephant Camp and Shu-Khinn-Thar for relaxation and TaungPhila Golf Club for recreation. Yazagyu Dam is also a public place for holidays and vacations.[10][11]
