Draft:Rimac Technology

Rimac Technology is a Croatian automotive technology company and Tier 1 supplier specializing in electric vehicle components, wholly owned by Rimac Group.[1] The company develops battery systems, electric drivetrains, and electronic systems for automotive manufacturers.[2] In 2023, Rimac Technology expanded into stationary energy storage through its Rimac Energy division.[3]

History

edit

Rimac Technology originated from the technology division of Rimac Automobili, founded in 2009 by Mate Rimac. The company began supplying battery systems and electric drivetrains to other automotive manufacturers as a secondary business to help fund the development of its Rimac-badged hypercars.

As demand for the company's technology grew among major automotive brands, Rimac Group decided to separate the hypercar and technology businesses. On January 1, 2022, Rimac Technology was officially spun off as an independent company, entirely owned by Rimac Group.[4]

Major Partnerships

edit

BMW Partnership

edit

In April 2024, Rimac Technology announced a long-term partnership with BMW Group to co-develop and produce high-voltage battery technology for selected electric vehicles.[5] The partnership involves establishing automated production lines for batteries at the Rimac Campus near Zagreb, Croatia.[6]

Other Partnerships

edit

Rimac Technology supplies components to several automotive manufacturers, including Porsche, Hyundai-Kia, Aston Martin, and Koenigsegg.[1] The company has also worked with Automobili Pininfarina[7] and CEER Motors.[8]

Financial Performance

edit

According to Croatian financial reports published in 2024, Rimac Technology generated €99 million in revenue in 2023, representing a 33% increase compared to 2021.[9] The company reported a net loss of €60.8 million in 2023.[9]

The parent company, Rimac Group, raised €500 million in Series D funding in 2022, led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2 and Goldman Sachs Asset Management, with participation from Porsche and other investors.[10] The funding round valued Rimac Group at €2 billion.[10]

Intellectual Property

edit

Rimac Technology holds over 1,100 patents globally[11], focusing primarily on battery cooling systems, thermal management, and electrical safety systems. The company's R&D capabilities are supported by specialized centers across Europe and collaboration with Croatian universities.
