Salim Assaf (Arabic: سليم عساف; born December 22, 1979) is a Lebanese composer, songwriter, singer, and music producer. He has written and composed music for various artists across the Arabic-speaking world and is the founder of the music production company Music Designers.

Early life and education

Assaf was born in Lebanon. He studied Oud and Oriental Music at the Lebanese National Conservatory. He later earned a Bachelor's degree in Travel and Tourism from the Lebanese University, an MBA in International Business from the University of Liverpool, and a Master's degree in Music for Film and TV from Berklee College of Music.

Career

Songwriting and composing

Assaf began his professional songwriting career in 2004 with "Ghali Alayi", performed by Carole Samaha. He continued collaborating with Samaha on additional songs such as "Keef Badi Eysh". Over the years, he composed and wrote songs for several artists including Majida El Roumi, Elissa, Nancy Ajram, Wael Kfoury, Najwa Karam, Saber Rebai, Ramy Ayach, and Assi Hallani. Notable works include:

  • "Sho Sahel El Haki" – performed by Rouwaida Attieh
  • "Majnoun" – performed by Ramy Ayach
  • "El Bint El Awiye" – performed by Wael Kfoury
  • "Helm El Banat" – performed by Nancy Ajram
  • "Ya Assal" – performed by Saber Rebai
  • "Al Mekhfi" – performed by Elissa

Solo releases

In addition to writing for others, Assaf pursued a singing career. His debut single "Serti Eli" was released in 2011. This was followed by tracks such as "Lawali Albi" (2012), "Mesh Khayef" (2014), "Eza Fik" (2014), "Ah Ya Bayi" (2016), "Kifo Albik" (2018), "Jamalo" (2023), and "Rfiqit Rouhi" (2024). He released a self-titled album in 2016 that compiled several of his previously released singles.

Music Designers

Assaf is the founder and CEO of Music Designers, a music production company based in Lebanon. Initially focused on composing customized bridal entrances, the company expanded into music for advertising, branding, events, and television. Projects have included work for Expo 2020 Dubai, the Saudi Tourism Authority, Elie Saab x Ohana Development, and commercial clients such as Cartier, Bulgari, Pepsi, and Toyota.

Television and media

Assaf has composed music for television series including Kawalis El Madina, Wen Kenti, and Wlad El Balad. He has appeared in televised interviews and entertainment programs on networks such as MTV Lebanon, LBCI, and Rotana.

Salim Assaf married Amani Wehbe in 2011. The couple has three children and resides in Lebanon.
