T1 Energy has a 5-gigawatt solar module facility in Wilmer, Texas, that it purchased from Trina Solar in 2024,[1] making T1 Energy one of the largest manufacturers of solar modules in the United States.[2] The Wilmer facility produces PV solar modules that employ Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (“TOPCon”) technology.
History
editThe company was formerly known as Freyr Battery and changed its name to T1 in February 2025.[3] At the same time, it moved its headquarters from Georgia to Texas. It was formed in 2021 through a merger.
In August 2025, T1 announced a deal with Corning Inc. to purchase solar wafers from a new manufacturing facility in Michigan.[4] With this deal, the company said it had created a fully domestic solar supply chain, from polysilicon through panels in the United States.
Operations
editT1 Energy produces monocrystaline silicon photovoltaic modules, used in the generation of solar electricity. The company has announced plans to add solar cell manufacturing and has discussed building an integrated supply chain in the United States.[5]
