Taylor Acorn (born September 21, 1993) is an American singer-songwriter, described as "genre-fluid"[1] for blending alternative[2], country-pop[3], emo, pop-punk, and pop-rock styles.[4][5] Recognized for "emotionally charged"[6] and "relatable"[3] songwriting, her work often explores themes of mental health, relationships, and personal growth.[3] She first gained attention in the country music scene, earning "artist to watch" recognitions from Billboard, CMT, and Pandora, with Billboard likening her music to Taylor Swift's early hits.[7]
Acorn transitioned to pop-punk in the early 2020s, releasing viral covers and original singles that resonated with fans of the genre.[3] Her 2023 EP, Certified Depressant, and 2024 album, Survival in Motion, garnered attention from pop-punk and emo audiences, with singles like 'Shapeshifting' and 'Coma' — which Ghost Cult Magazine noted had “amassed millions of streams across platforms” and OnesToWatch described as “breakout singles” that “racked up millions of streams” — earning praise from outlets such as Amplify Her Voice, OnesToWatch, and I'm Music Magazine.[4] [8][3][9][10]
In 2025, Acorn signed with Fearless Records,[11] was named among the "Top 25 artists to watch in 2025" by Melodic Magazine[12], and performed at major festivals including Good Things,[13] Riot Fest,[14] When We Were Young,[15] and the Vans Warped Tour,[16] as well as supporting Dashboard Confessional and Boys Like Girls on tour.[17]
Early Life
editTaylor Acorn was born on September 21, 1993 [citation needed] in St. Paul, Minnesota.[18][19] She has an older brother and a younger sister. She lived in a suburb of Seattle, Washington for most of her early childhood.[20] Her family moved to Wellsboro, Pennsylvania to be closer to family, following the passing of her father when she was eight years old.[20][21] In addition to her musical endeavors, Acorn played three varsity sports while in high school, basketball, soccer, and track and field.[22] She even coached track and field for part of that time.[21][23]
Acorn's father introduced her to track and field when she was young and she continued with the sport as she got older, in part as an homage to her father.[24] Her track and field talents earned her a scholarship to Kutztown University,[25] where she attended for two years[20] as an Electronic Media[26] major before deciding to leave in 2014 to pursue music full time. She then moved to Lynchburg, Virginia to be closer to her mother who had relocated while she was attending Kutztown.[20]
Acorn traveled between Lynchburg and Nashville for a period of time, while working to gain a foothold in the music industry. Eventually she moved to Nashville full time, sharing an apartment, with singer-songwriters Kalie Shorr and Emma Lynn White. The three notably contracted COVID-19 at the same time in the spring of 2020, as reported on the Bobby Bones Show. [20][27][28][26]
Career
editAcorn began her music career as a songwriter and country music artist in 2016.[3] In 2020 she began releasing covers of well known pop-punk songs on social media, leading to her rise in popularity and marking the beginning of her transition into a pop punk artist.[29] Her first full album Survival In Motion was released in 2024. [30]
Musician
editAcorn is sometimes described as "genre fluid."[1] She began her musical career as a country artist before transitioning into the pop-punk scene. Her music features themes of love, self-identity, and mental health.[28] According to Amplify, "Taylor strives to give her listeners a safe space where they can feel accepted no matter where they’re from."[31][28]
Acorn has stated her passion for creating music, saying, "I think just being able to put out music in itself is just such a gift. It’s the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do, and it’s what I love the most. Just being able to do that and being able to connect with fans, that’s really my only hope."[32]
Pre 2016: Beginnings
editTaylor Acorn loved to sing as a child. She began writing poems and songs as a way to cope with the loss of her father when she was 8 years old. At age 15 she taught herself to play guitar on YouTube using a guitar she borrowed from a friend. She participated in music competitions and talent shows throughout high school. In 2011, Acorn won the Twin Tiers Idol competition. She performed "UnWritten" by Natasha Beddingfield during the finale. This earned her a guaranteed audition spot on American Idol.[33][34][20][21] She also auditioned for The Voice.[35]
In 2016, Taylor Acorn released two independent digital singles, "Without You" and "What Do I Do." She credits her third single "Put It In A Song" for earning her a writing and recording deal with Play It Again Records. Acorn signed with Play It Again Music Publishing/Play It Again Records in late 2017, with whom she partnered for the release of her self written EP, also titled Put It In A Song. [36][37][38]
In 2018, Acorn departed Play It Again Records amicably, after Alex Torrez, the A&R representative who signed her, left the label. In the absence of a direct replacement, Acorn's development as an artist faltered due to lack of mentorship. Concurrently, greater demands were being placed on her as a writer, and she felt she wasn't meeting the label's expectations for writing number one hits. These circumstances prompted Acorn to approach the label about stepping back, and the label was "honestly kind of thinking the same thing," crucially giving her "all of [her] songs".[19][39]
Subsequent singles from this period include a cover of "Your Body Is a Wonderland" by John Mayer released in 2018, which she performed with David Ryan, as well as "Red White" and "Back to You," both released in 2019.
Put It In A Song (2017)
editWritten solely on her own, Taylor Acorn’s Put It in a Song EP marked a confident debut into the country-pop landscape, pairing youthful vulnerability with sharp songwriting instincts. Described by Belles and Gals as “a refreshing collection of catchy, emotionally charged tracks,” the EP showcases Acorn’s ability to turn personal experience into relatable storytelling. Music Update Central praised her “natural vocal charm and honest delivery,” highlighting songs like “Same” and “Seventeen” as standouts that “capture the highs and lows of growing up with striking sincerity.” [40][41][42] The EP has amassed over 50 million streams.[19]
2020–2022: Transition Period
Acorn’s amicable split from Play It Again Records in late 2018 paved the way for her to regain ownership of her songs and pursue a more authentic musical style. In early 2020, after four years of writing and performing pop-country songs, Acorn began posting stripped-down acoustic covers of classic pop-punk anthems such as Matchbox Twenty's "Unwell," Avril Lavigne's "I'm with You," Mayday Parade’s “Jamie All Over,” Panic! At The Disco’s “I Write Sins Not Tragedies,” and Blink-182’s “First Date” to TikTok and Instagram. These videos quickly went viral, introducing her to a new audience of emo and pop-punk fans and setting the stage for her stylistic pivot.[19][3][43][44]
In 2020 Acorn began collaborating with Dan Swank and self-released a string of singles that began to span both country and emo-tinged pop-punk styles. Tracks such as “Therapy” and “Paper Airplanes” retained a polished, country-pop sheen even as their introspective lyrics and gritty guitar accents signaled her shift toward confessional songwriting rooted in early 2000s emo and pop-punk aesthetics.[45] “It’s Not This” marked her first fully pop-punk single, while its darker counterpart “Sinister,” was a portent of the heavier, more produced sound that would eventually become a staple of her pop-punk repertoire. [19][46]
This evolution towards pop-punk was not linear, however. Her 2021 single “True Crime” was embraced as a country single by Countrytown who named it their “Song of the Day,” calling it a “hauntingly beautiful song about still being in love with the person who stole your heart.” [47]She performed “True Crime” and “Like the Movies” live on The Bobby Bones Show, a nationally syndicated morning radio program centered on country music, pop culture, and comedy.[48][49]
Other releases from this time period include the emotive “Somebody Else,” “Are We,” “Left You Instead,” and “If You Could See Me Now” offering catchy, open-chord riffs matched to lyrics about relational disillusionment. In September 2021, she collaborated with Arrows in Action on “Uncomfortably Numb,” featuring gang vocals and relentless tempos emblematic of the modern emo revival. [50]
Stay Emo, Pt. 1 (2021)
editStay Emo, Pt. 1 (Acoustic) is a five-track EP by Taylor Acorn, released digitally on December 17, 2021. The collection comprises acoustic covers of early 2000s emo and pop-punk staples—Mayday Parade’s “Jamie All Over,” Paramore’s “Brick by Boring Brick,” Panic! At The Disco’s “Into Your Arms,” and The Maine’s “Helena”—alongside an original demo, “Do That Again.”
In a 2022 Bringin’ It Backwards interview, Acorn explained that she conceived the EP as a deliberate return to her emo roots and a creative testbed for her emerging pop-punk identity. Amplify Her Voice observed that Stay Emo, Pt. 1 laid the groundwork for her subsequent pop-punk releases, praising its raw arrangements and Acorn’s earnest vocal performances as precursors to her 2022 single “Shapeshifting." [3][19][51]
"A Stay Emo Part 2 is coming, I just don't know when yet," said Acorn in an interview with Amplify Her Voice.[3] She reported having "been in the studio working so hard on the new music," but a release timeline remains unconfirmed.[3]
2022 Breakout Singles: Psycho, Shapeshifting, and Settling into Pop-Punk
editIn March, 2022, Acorn released the single "In My Head".[52] This track contributed to her emerging pop-punk sound, characterized by heavier instrumentation, relatable lyrics, and her approach to addressing personal struggles with emotional honesty. [3]
Her breakout pop-punk anthem, “Shapeshifting,” was released in May of 2022.[53] "Shapeshifting" was described as a definitive step into an "emo-rocker vibe," addressing themes of anxiety and honesty in a "signature, raw, pop-punk way".[3] Critics noted that "Shapeshifting," alongside "In My Head," demonstrated Acorn's "ability to write, perform, and execute in the pop-punk genre," asserting that she was "exactly where she belongs".[3] Acorn herself identified "Shapeshifting" as her "favorite song" she had released up to that point.[3]
Later in 2022, Acorn released "Psycho."[44] This song, co-written with Spencer Jordan[54], has been described as an anthem for those who have been made to feel "insane" in or out of a relationship, serving as a defiant response to such experiences.[55] It was noted for its "drum driven intro and verse" and "intensity that smash through the chorus".[56] "Psycho" became one of her most recognized hits, contributing to her footprint in the pop-punk community.[57] She continued to release music with "Wishing You Hell" in October of 2022, and "Twenty Eight" on December of 2022.[44]
Alongside her releases, Acorn immersed herself in the pop-punk community through live shows. She performed at Emo Night Nashville—drawing more than 1,500 nostalgic fans—and was booked for Emo Night Brooklyn and Emo Night Los Angeles later that year. These appearances underscored her successful transition from country performer to rising pop-punk voice.[3] This era marked a significant phase in Acorn's career as she found her authentic artistic identity within the pop-punk genre after years of searching, a space where she felt she truly belonged. [3]
2023–Present: Pop-Punk Period
editIn February of 2023, Acorn released "I Think I'm in Love."[44] This track presented a more overtly positive outlook, contrasting with some of her more introspective themes. It was noted for its catchy pop-punk hybrid sound, driven by a "solid chugging riff" and energetic vocals, creating an engaging and memorable listening experience.[56]
The single "Certified Depressant", released by Taylor Acorn in March 2023, received attention for its raw emotional honesty and direct lyrical content.[58] The song delves into the struggles of mental health, comparison, and identity,[32] with Acorn herself describing it as being "very much about who I am as a person" and acknowledging a long-standing battle with mental health.[32] It captures the feeling of constantly questioning one's state of mind and battling self-criticism.[59] Characterized by an upbeat tune despite its heavy subject matter,[60] "Certified Depressant" demonstrates Acorn's ability to blend pop-punk energy with deep, relatable introspection, earning praise for its impactful and resonant message.[60][61] It serves as an anthem for those feeling similarly, letting them know "it's okay to feel these things and to go through that."[32]
In April of 2023, Acorn released the single "Coma".[44] The song was co-written by Acorn, Cassadee Pope, and Dan Swank.[54] A version of "Coma" featuring Cassadee Pope as a vocalist was later released on in August of 2023.[44] The song explores the theme of "awakening out of a toxic relationship, feeling free but also almost unrecognizable from the person you were when you were in it".[62] The collaboration, which began in the songwriting process, was described by both artists as a "special" and "easygoing, natural" partnership, with Pope expressing a strong connection to the song's lyrics.[63]
In May 2024, Acorn headlined a show in Salt Lake City, Utah, which Utah Concert Review described as “energetic and engaging.”[64] She also supported Dashboard Confessional and Boys Like Girls on tour that year.[65] [this should split out into a touring section, but it's going to hang out here for a minute]
Certified Depressant EP (2023)
editReleased on September 22, 2023[66], Taylor Acorn's eight-track EP, Certified Depressant, marked a definitive milestone in her musical career, further solidifying her presence in the pop-punk and pop-rock genres. [32] Acorn described Certified Depressant as an "autobiography" of her recent years.[8] The EP delves into deeply personal themes including mental health struggles, the complexities of relationships, and her journey of self-acceptance.[8][67][61]
Certified Depressant was met with positive critical reception, with reviewers praising Acorn's authentic lyricism and her successful transition into the pop-punk sound.[8][67][56][68] Barebones Entertainment called her Certified Depressant EP a "Certified hit!"[60] and OnesToWatch described it as a "stellar EP."[8] Publications highlighted the EP's emotional depth and its relatable content, solidifying Acorn's position as a significant voice in the contemporary pop-punk scene.[68][4]
Survival In Motion (2024)
editTaylor Acorn's debut studio album, Survival in Motion, was initially released independently on September 13, 2024[30][69], followed by an expanded deluxe edition on May 16, 2025[70]. Produced by Dan Swank[71][72], the album showcases a blend of pop-punk[5][73], alternative rock[73], and pop[74], with songwriting contributions primarily from Acorn, Swank, and Emma Lynn White across most tracks[29].
The album explores themes of resilience and self-discovery through its energetic and emotionally resonant songs[9]. Chorus.fm praised the record’s blend of alternative rock and pop‑punk influences, highlighting Acorn’s “relatable” songwriting.[2] It was described as "critically acclaimed" by Beyond the Stage.[11] I'm Music Magazine called it a "winner from start to finish."[9] According to All The Alt Things, Survival in Motion was "genuinely captivating," and was included among their "favorite albums of the year."[75] It saw modest commercial success upon its initial release, charting on both British and American iTunes charts[76]. Several singles, including "Greener"[77], "High Horse"[78], and the title track[79], preceded the album's full release. Acorn referred to the single "Greener" as "the entire embodiment of how my life feels at this current moment,"[80] and indicated that it is "probably the most important song I've ever written."[29]
Greener (Acoustic) EP (2024)
editTaylor Acorn released her two-song Greener (Acoustic) EP on December 20, 2024,[81][82] after a busy year of touring and festival appearances for Acorn.[4] The EP, described as a gift,[81][83] offers "stripped-back versions of 'Greener' and 'People Watching.'"[82] Both tracks originally appeared on her debut album, Survival in Motion.[84] This EP "showcase[s] a softer, more vulnerable side to the pop-punk artist," providing "a more intimate listening experience."[85][86] According to Acorn, there is "something so special about an acoustic or piano version of a song especially one that feels so personal."[83]
"Goodbye, Good Riddance" and Fearless Records Announcement (2025)
editAcorn joined the label Fearless Records in 2025.[87] The announcement coincided with the release of the single "Goodbye, Good Riddance" and the beginning of the Summer School Fest 2025 Tour on July 11, 2025.[88][89] According to Folk N Rock, this was "a definitive marker for Taylor, and a turning point."[6] Described as a "full throttle pop punk experience, erupting with pure melodic force,"[6] the single "Goodbye, Good Riddance" is about "a full on celebration of what it feels like to finally cut loose from a toxic relationship."[6] Acorn describes the track as, gritty, fun, and empowering.[6] Its official music video, directed by Doltyn Snedden, was filmed at the Murray Supercross.[6]
Poster Child (2025)
editOn August 23, 2025, American pop-punk artist Taylor Acorn announced her second full-length album, Poster Child, scheduled for release on October 24, 2025, via Fearless Records. Poster Child includes twelve tracks and incorporates stylistic elements from late-1990s and early-2000s pop-punk.[90] To support the release, Acorn announced a North American headlining tour beginning in November 2025, with scheduled performances at events including When We Were Young Festival and Warped Tour.[91]
Acorn concurrently released the single “Hangman,” which she described as reflecting a period of emotional stagnation despite professional success.[91] The song uses the metaphor of the children’s game “hangman” to illustrate the idea of being held back by the universe, even when things seem to be going well.[90] The music video for “Hangman” premiered on August 20, 2025. It features a commuter train setting intended to represent shared emotional experiences among strangers. Acorn explained that the concept was influenced by personal grief and the challenge of celebrating career milestones while coping with loss.[92]
Collaborations
editTaylor Acorn has frequently collaborated with other artists, both by inviting them to feature on her own music and by appearing as a guest vocalist on their tracks. This has allowed her to broaden her fanbase by introducing herself to fans of other artists.
On her own releases, she has collaborated with:

Songwriter
editMultiple interviews and reviews note that Acorn frequently mines her personal experiences—particularly her mental-health, romantic ups and downs, and ongoing journey of self-discovery—for songwriting material.[3][110][32][34][80] Critics observe that she "airs out her dirty laundry" through her lyrics, with the explicit aim of making listeners "feel less alone" and feel empowered through her vulnerability.[32][4][111] This emphasis on emotional honesty has become a defining characteristic of her artistic identity, fostering a relatable connection with her audience. In a Bringin’ It Backwards interview, Acorn explained, "I’m just trying to get down to [the fans'] level and just be like, 'Hey, this is what I’m going through. And if you’re going through it too, you’re not alone.'"[32]
In addition to writing her own music, Acorn is credited as a writer on several songs by other artists including Love Me Like That by Madeline Carter, Doc Martens by Aviva, Long Way Home by Canaan Cox, Tequila On The Moon by AJ Gatio, That Summer by Kaylee Bell, and The Distance by Hardcastle. [54]
Personal Life
editAthletics
editIn 2012, Taylor Acorn's senior year in high school, she was named All-Region Female Track Athlete of the Year by the Towanda Daily Review. That year, she had the top times in the 100, 200, and 300 hurdles. She was also part of the top 4x100 relay team and had the third best long jump in the area. That year she also won the States bronze medal for the 300m hurdles [112][113][114]
Taylor Acorn attended Kutztown University on a Track and Field scholarship. She competed in the 60m Hurdles at the 21st Lehigh John Covert Classic before leaving to pursue music full time in 2014.[20][115]
Acorn spent some time in the world of competitive body building and is known to have competed in the 2015 NPC Elite Muscle Classic competition. [116]
Tattoos
editIn a 2025 TikTok video, Acorn discussed several of her tattoos and their significance, including the roman numeral XII which is her lucky number, and a long quote from her favorite book, Looking for Alaska by John Green which she paraphrases as "we are greater than the sum of our parts."[117]
Relationships
editWhile she confirms that many of her songs are about past relationships, Taylor Acorn hasn't revealed the individuals that inspired them. [34][118]
As of September on 2024, Taylor Acorn is in a relationship with Doltyn Sneeden, founder of DS Creatives Agency. He is credited with directing some of Acorns music videos as well as photographer and writer for some of her press materials.[119][120] [121][120][122][27]
Acorn gained media attention in 2018 when New Jersey Devils goaltender Keith Kinkaid accepted her public invitation to dinner on Twitter (now X). That exchange—including Chipotle’s quip to ‘make it a night to remember’—and the subsequent date were covered by Sportskeeda, Barstool Sports, and Yahoo Sports.[123][124][125]
Influences
editTaylor Acorn credits Avril Lavigne and Amy Lee as major influences, saying that she learned to sing by listening to Amy Lee. A post on TikTok implies that the first verse of her song "Be Like You" is about seeing Avril Lavigne on the TV when she was 8 and that being part of the inspiration for her wanting to pursue a career in music. Other significant influences are Taylor Swift and Hayley Williams. She also credits rock bands such as The Verve Pipe, Matchbox Twenty, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Vertical Horizon; pop-punk and emo bands like Circa Survive, The Main, Mayday Parade, Neck Deep, The Story So Far, Story of the Year, and Dashboard Confessional; and country artists like Faith Hill, Martina McBride, Sarah Evans, Reba McIntyre, Alan Jackson, and Garth Brooks.
