Notably, the International Optical League was founded in Berlin, Germany in 1927, and in 1969, it was renamed the International Optometric and Optical League (IOOL). Later, in 1995, the organization became known as the World Council of Optometry (WCO), with its headquarters in St. Louis. The WCO continues to emphasize the growing importance of optometry in global healthcare systems.[4] The organization promotes collaboration, education, and support to enhance global eye health and vision care.

editDuring the week-long campaign, the World Council of Optometry announced the theme: Expanding Optometry’s Role – The Time is Now. A series of programs and events were held from March 19 to March 25, focusing on this theme.
