In its current form, this article about abstraction does not seem to describe abstraction but something similar to the single responsibility principle, Don't repeat yourself, . Another article on abstraction provides a much more accurate description, which applies to the whole field of computer science, including computer programming.

I think there is an abstraction principle, but it's not peculiar to computer science or software. I read that the abstraction principle is about simplifying problems by ignoring detail that isn’t essential, whether in logic, math, or software.
