Talk:Noise Protocol Framework

Copypaste

edit

Currently, most of this article is copypasted from the NPF source documentation (https://noiseprotocol.org/noise.html). This is not necessarily copyright infringement because the source is public ___domain. However, this level of excruciating detail is neither readable nor appropriate for a Wikipedia article. This article should not be documentation itself.

I would recommend the bulk of the article be removed. Key concepts should be summarized in smaller sections (perhaps such as Overview, Protocol structure, Handshake example, Security, Applications). A rewrite of this magnitude may require an expert / someone knowledge in the field. Copy editing can happen only after this rewrite.

The main goal is a concise and readable article. Jayowyn (talk) 15:39, 30 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi, @Jayowyn! It's great you care about quality in Wikipedia articles. I'm not qualified at all in the field of digital cryptography, so I can't express an opinion on the style of the article. However, whether or not it violates copyright is a much clearer issue and this article doesn't. I can't judge what this article does need, but can I suggest Template:Overly detailed or Wikipedia:Too much detail or Template:Technical? That might get the attention of people who can make the article better. I'm going to remove the copypaste tag and make way for you to choose the next tag.
